Yeah so quick question a buddy and I are playing and I can't figure out if steg is a monster and so gets stomp or even thunderstomp, it says he's a large target....

In the rulebook bestiaty stegadons are classed as monsters, so they would be getting thunderstomp.

so if steg war spear is around we have 2d6 impact hits and d6 always strike last auto hits....

hello horde destroyer.

Yup 3D6+1 autohits, provided the steg lives to ASL, which it will against most enemies.
However if the enemy has even 5 models remaining he is steadfast and you are unlikely to brake him, that is why the spearsteg (and any other steg for that matter) should allways charge in to support one of your blocks, steg kills + block ranks = one boned enemy unit.

Page 85 says Monsters get thunderstomp, page 157 says stegadons are monsters.

Monstrous Beasts, Monstrous Cavalry and Monstrous Infantry all have the normal Stomp.

In example: Minotaurs, Trolls, Bloodletter, Juggernaugt, Pegasus Knights, Ushabti, Tomb Scorpion, Great Eagles, Great Stag, Unicorn, Tree Kin, Kroxigor, Terradon, Almost all the Ogre Kingdom (nothing Gnoblar), Rat Ogres, Gore Bulls, Gigantic Spiders, Cave Squigs..... just to name some.

do things like a steggy get a normal stomp on trolls etc?

Nope, stomp and thunderstomp only affect infantry, warbeasts and swarms.
