how do you beat the TOMB KINGS. man it seems like their magic never dies out. i know this guy bring a king a 3 other people who can do magic. the first turn is no threat but then by turn 2 he uses magic to have all his guys fight me, uses it on shooting the catapult, i try to dispell but my DD is not that much and i use my dispell scrolls on his casket. what am i suppose to do??
 
You don't need to dispel everything. Ignore things like movement (that is just a march move usually) unless it will result in a charge you don't want. Ignore summoning if it's just topping up skeleton units or other cheap disposable units. Smiting on the catapult shut down all the time, and of course the casket you want to stop. Once you're into close combat you'll want to keep them from having the hero's getting extra attacks (especially a Tomb King with the Destroyer of Eternities).

Best way to deal with them though is to use magic or a suicide character or unit to take out the Hierophant, then the army will crumble and you can just mop up what's left.
 
that's what i do all the time. i always ignore movement, i ignore regrowing units but when in combat already, this guy always uses his magic to fight. i can't help but stop that, and on top of that, i use my DD to dispell the catapult and his casket. but if i end up using all my DD on his swinging at me, then i end up taking a shot from his catapult and i always bring at least 3 scrolls so that i can be safe from the casket for at least 3 turns.

but i still can't beat it.
 
uhhm, yeah, ignoring movement is the bad part. the biggest strenght of a TK army are thier movement spells. if played right he can get your flanks and fronts each turn he wants to do that. also, you could try to get a unit of skink skirmishers in CC with the casket. you get 3 skirmishers in base contact with the priest. thats 3 atacks that hit on 4's and wound on 4's. 0.75 wounds statistically so you need to do beter than that but if you manage to take out the priest its gonna be a big blow to his army.
also, unless he has the destroyer of eternities you should worry about smiting in close combat, its just 1 attack/model. you should be able to survive that [your saurus should actually]. the catapult is nasty if it hits home so you might want to dispell that alltough paniking at Ld 7 cold-blooded [assuming skulls of the foe and slann] is not really likely. conflagration of doom has unlimited range, if you get lucky you can ake out the casket. wall of fire hits boh the priest and the guards so wall of fire + bane head will kill the casket in 1 turn.
 
Fiery Blast has a range of 24" mate ;-)
 
that sounds like a good combo, bane head + fiery blast. sounds like it should work beautifully. only 1 problem. i don't have a slann :rolleyes:

I can't help but smile that while you hear a lot of people talk about how under strength the TK are because of the power creep they are still badass enough in what they are meant to be badass in (magic). The sheer fact that they are so frustrating is awesome in my eyes.

Oh, sorry for your troubles bro. But being an aspiring TK player (my future evil army of choice) I can't help but to revel.
 
tomorow im going to play againts TK. i will write how did it go :)
 
like i said i played 2 battles against tomb kings.
first battle i lost mainly becose i didint have alot mages (slann and skink priest) fire magic didint work well on the casket. he kept resurecting his army and that finished me off...
seond time i took slann 3 mage priests on eotg. slann took shadow lore. magick was awsome. 3 casadoras blasted quite well. one ccasadora didint blast at all it had 10 counters so luckuly she didint blast if she did i would lost alot of my men.
skinks did quite well with poisoned shots. shadow pit did awsome job on his archers.
all in all i think you can beet TK only with magic no other way.
 
i still fail to see how he won. he has nothing that can take out a stegadon except the casket and only chariots (maybe) are able to beat saurus, how exactly did you lose?
 
army i used when i lost:

i understand that this is a totaly stupid roster.
i cast a wall of fire on his warriors he kept dispeling it. i casted some fire spells on the casket an didint manage to do wounds or if i did i kiled guards and he resurected them.
i shotted alot of magic with skink but it was uselles becose not much did died and on his turn he resurected them.
cold ones did his job killed his mummy/dog warriors and got charged with charriots and allmost won but one chariot was left and afcourse he resurected alot of chariots.
i lost only to a minor victory if i concentrated my attacks on his skeleton warriors not the casked i think i would have won.
in this play dice gods werent good to me.
the second time i used:

i rocked at magic faze. had alot of casadoras to spell of and i did about 4-5 casadoras.
alot of thunder bolts were thrown. made few charges with stegs and his mummy/dog warriors died, chariots died, archers died and catapult died.
but he managed to kill all my priest in one of his turns that was breath takig.
then i charged with 2 stegies his casket it got broken
at the end only his king was standing. and becouse he only managed to kill 1,5 unit of skinks i got a masacare becouse i killed everything and all my mane troops were standing.
 
well your 1st list was totally illegal so that shouldn't even count.
also, 1 unit of saurus in the 1st list and none in teh 2nd list? you know, only skinks can match a TK's skeletons WS of 2. 3 EotG is qutie cheesy.
you also have terradons and chameleon skinks as an option, both of wich can charge a casket/lone priest and probably kill it. a priest only has T3 and 2 wounds, while its harder to do so with terradons alone it is possible to kill a priest in 1 or 2 turns. chamelons can charge aswell, probably in the 2nd turn nad you have 3 models in base to base with his priest that can score some wounds, terradons are still better tough becuase they can get 4 attacks on the priest.
magic is nice, but don't rely on it. uranon's thunderbolt is not really usefull against TK's since they can't get good armor saves only rarely and casting too many commets is a waste.
also, what are "mummy/dog warriors"? ushabti?
 
yes ushabti. why my first list is ilegal?
second list was heavy magic thats why i took only skinks. and i think it was a prety good list becouse i scored a masacare. eotg rocks, multiple burningaligment almost whiped half of his troops then + blowpipe pisoned attacks and latter charges and thats it. dont realy have to worry about the casket as long as you have plenty dispel dice. stand with your slann that he could always see the casket and give him magic resistance (3) so 3 dispel dices againts 2 of the casket. 35 skinks do a prety good dammage againts anything becouse of the poisoned attacks you can even mage to have to roll 70 dices :D 35 skinks + multiple shots. if dice gods in your side yu can get 20-30 sixes and thats well hell alot.

sorry im fierly new to warhammer so i still dont know alot. i dont have my army i only proxy. yesturday got the battalion of lizards so going to start collecting them.
why cant slann have a shield?
 
An investment you might want to consider is a program called Army Builder. It's not a perfect system but it'll prevent you from making honest mistakes we all do from time to time. I've been using it for years and have been VERY satisified with it's results.

You can download the program online for free but you must purchase a license from the same website (Wolf Lair). The license gives you free tech support and updates for a year. I'm not sure how much it costs to renew or purchase a license but I think it's around $30 AD.

well let me tell you how i lost. i allowed a charge from his Ushabi into my EotG. he killed 4 skinks and a wound on my priest. i did no wounds back. i lost. stubborn 6 failed. i ran, he overran me. and his bone giant and scorpion charged my chief w/ warspear and killed him, especially with that bone giant and its unstoppable wounds. that's how i lost. i wasn't worried about the casket because i brought enough scrolls to get through 4 turns.

Sorry to nitpick, but I wouldn't call Tomb Kings an evil army. They are more the type of "Stay the F*** off my lawn" otherwise we'll blast you. Then again, that's my interpretation of them.

I, too, am a fan of Tomb Kings, they are my second army, but I've not done much of anything with them since I'm currently in a Border Princes campaign as Lizardmen (I knew there would be VC and DAOC in the campaign...and no matter what people say, TK can't do well against insanely magic heavy armies. There's just not the ability in the list.)
 
I was in a game today with Tomb Kings. I was told that those spells cannot be dispelled. Is that true or can you only dispell them with scrolls?

It was a close battle. I ended up killing his Hierophant(dunno if that is spelled right), and then his army crumbled. By my next turn, he was finished. He was taking between 4-7 wounds per unit before his turn ended.

EOTG took out his Casket of the souls just before his hierophant. Burning alignment ftw. I killed his Ushanti with a unit of Cold one cavalry (5 with no comand or banner).

His Casket took out 600 points of my 1500 point army. I really thought I was going to lose until I killed his Casket and then the Hierophant.

Ended up being a massacre in my favor. I will post my fluff here on the battle report.
