Is the comet distributed as shooting attacks?

My new-to-warhammer-Empire-playing-friend-who-likes-to-put-lots-of-characters-in-expensive-units said "excess wounds on the unit from the comet can carry on the characters once the units dies". This is because "the characters are part of the unit (seeing as characters can also count towards % of the unit and things like that)". He argued along the logic that the comet hits all units, and seeing as characters are part of unit, they can get hit.

I don't think this is correct, but just to make sure. I don't remember the 7th ed comet being able to hit characters in units

Mind you, this was at 11 at night and we didn't really want to check the magic or unit rules - so we just went with that. Unfortunately my Slann took a wound from this --> wait that must be why he brought it up! :jawdrop:

If you're under the template you're under the template! It's like a carnasaur getting hit but not the rider! Things like this the wounds are best distributed as per shooting!

But the comet is not a template so that's irrelevant

It doesn't say "distributed as shooting" so I don't think those rules come into play, if they did, the slann would be safe ina unit of TG bugger than 5 RnF.

So if a unit only has 10 TG and a slann, and the comet does 11 hits I guess one of them must be resolved against the slanns toughness and his ward save.

It does´t have to say It´s distributed as shooting In the spell description, page 36 big rulebook. Imo the comet can´t hit a character unless he´s in a unit that Is less than 5 rnf models.

I always played it this way.

There is no point to do Look out. Sir, because that is meant to be used only against template attacks or when the character is outsde of the unit.

Exactly and the order of removal of the commandgroup Is perfectly described In the rules.

Thanks, I always played it as shooting attacks also, but I never thought of it as a template - even though it doesn't specify it as one. I don't think I ever actually needed to resovle it against characters much

I'll discuss with opponents to ensure whether it acts as a template and characters get "Look out Sir"

I was wrong about the LOS, I read the spell now, I thought it hit all models within the radius, but it hits all units - my bad!

If characters are allowed Look out Sir against the comet, how many hits does he take?

Actually, would I just consider it as a direct damage spell (but hits friendly troops too)?

Then again, does direct damage cause hits on characters if it destroys the unit?

Forget that thing about templates because thats totally wrong, If it´s not stated otherwise hits from spells are distributed as shooting.
