8th Ed. Can I do this?

I want to make sure that I can do the following. I have a tournament tomorrow. I have taken some throw away skinks to put out first and try to out deploy my opponents. One of the skink units (cohorts) has 11 models (I know. They are there to die or redirect). Anyway, I want to deploy them 3 wide and 4 deep as follows:

C=champion
S=Standard Bearer
M= (You guessed it, musician)

xxx
xxx
xx

Then, in the first turn (or when they get to the flank of another unit), I want to reform them into 5 wide (facing the flank of the unit they are flanking hopefully) shown below:

This is a rough diagram. I can even make them angled. My question is, can I do that on a movement of say 8 inches (using the last 4 inches for the reform-on a ld check)?

Page 14 (at a guess) WFRB deals with this I think.

You cannot charge then reform units. As you charge in the sub phase your unit would do this if it had a flank charge;

I do not plan to reform on the charge. I plan on moving up to the flank then reforming. The charge would happen the folling turn (possibly, or a redirection).

The test isn't to reform, its to move. This is an important difference.

So first you reform (in the remaining moves phase), then you test. If you fail you stay still, if you pass then you can do a normal movement (not march).

What you cannot do is move then test to reform. It only goes the other way- reform then test to move.

You can still use this tactic to get into a good flanking position just makes it slightly harder. Setup your flanker wider (maybe eight inches diagonal to flank), so you can reform to face the flank then move 6 straight towards the flank.

Or i have completely missed the point of your tactical question and the above is either known or not needed lol
