I'm looking to build a 1000pt and a 2000pt army. Both need to have magic, so I think skink priest for the firs,t and a Slann for the second. I like the idea of the bow on the steg. I will not be fielding terradons. My focus will be magic and range, so javs/blowpipes and some skink skirmishers are what I want to shine, right behind my slann's pew pew. any thoughts on what I need?

the armies I'll be facing are High Elves, Ogres, Skaven, and Dwarves.

Without Terradons you are doomed. DOOMED!

Well, maybe not.

Do you want a solo Slann or a Slann in a block of Temple Guard?

I just feel like the points spent on Terradons could be better spent on more skinks or another Salamandar

for the 2000 pt, I will have the slann in with temple guards, for sure. at least 8 TG and maybe 10 depending on points.

I also like the Steg for the bow to shut down some units at range.

I have looked at Skink/Krox combos, but I'm not sure if they would serve me better than pure skinks and separate Saurus groups.

I want some ambush camo scavs so I can deploy effectively in the later rounds if I get a bad set up in pre-game placement. Our group is currently playing without terrain.

The skinks on the steg are BS 3 so I wouldn't expect the giant bow to work wonders for your battle plan, instead think of it as a secondary perk that comes with the steg's combat abilities.

You also cannot move and fire that giant bow. That is why I very rarely take the regular stegadon. I like the double blowpipes on the ancient stegadon. Or just put a character on top for EOTG or Chief with Warspear.

you can put the skink priest on the ancient steg w/ EOTG right? level 2 wizard + slann would work fine for me magic phase wise. I'm gonna give him the cup for sure, not sure what other goodies. need a feedback scroll and maybe a dispell. I'll be staring down Teclis more often than not.

A small unit of TG sounds more like a liability than anything. I would strongly suggest that you use at least 16, and I usually go with at least 17 so I can lose one and keep full ranks.

Chameleons deploy as scouts, not ambushers.

There is no Priest on a Steg option except the Engine, but the Engine rocks!

For me personally 3 Terradons is an auto include at 2000 points. They can get in the enemy backfield and threaten to wipe out any unit that flrrs from a charge. Also good at hunting war machines and skirmishers.

Just my $0.02.

I like the look of this list, but have some other ideas

I thought you could move and fire, just not march and fire.
