The bastiladon has an ability to do 2d6 S3 hits to enemy units within D6 range. Does this affect units in close combat as well? The way it reads it doesnt seem like it does cuz it happens during the shooting phase?

If it does not target units in cc then that ability is kinda weak.
 
The wording implies that it can do hits in CC since it states that it can use the shooting attack even when in CC. However, until a FAQ clarifies the issue, it does not have the RAW wording to have the hits affect enemy units in CC and it can easily be argued that units in CC do not suffer any hits.
 
It's S2 as well, not 3. Weak sauce.
 
True but - it has d6 thunderstomp, its own attacks, skink attacks and then 2d6 snakes.. And the snakes are poisoned so vs hordes it'd be a good support unit

S2 hits, not S3.
The rules say it has a profile and uses the rules listed below.
Done in the shooting phase, even if marched, charged or in combat. All enemy units within D6" rake 2D6 S2 hits.
IMO, it's any unit in range. As the hits are S2, it's really not all that over-powered.

Think of what it's meant to be - a horde of snakes everywhere. Anyone in my group would agree with it being in close combat, as it says it can still be used at that time.

Think of it sort of like a Vampire's scream attack.

The snake shooting attack isn't poisoned; it's 2d6 auto hits, and since you're not rolling to hit, you can't do poison.

It's kind of funny that the thing that the Ark of Sotek is best at killing is skinks.

I would say it is a shooting attack and as such you cannot
delcare units locked in CC to be valid targets but as everyone
agrees without the FAQ we'll just have to guess.

As a shooting attack, you'd also need to be in arc and line of sight as well; and normally couldn't do it if you marched, charged, or were in combat.
It all depends on how you read "All enemy units".

Since S2 2D6 hits is kind of crappy at a range of D6", having it play as literally "ALL" units hasn't been that good. It's weak enough to think that is what GW meant.

I think you'll find that you 'can't traget enemy units in combat' with a shooting attack. You're not targetting anyone, you're releasing snakes who do damage to everything withing d6"
 
Lolll the ark of sotek just got even crappier... 90 degree arc.. Cant use ark of sotek in a tarpit when the bastiladon is engaged in combat, cant target anyone in melee...

Well don't put it past GW I've seen them do stupid rulings like that before
in 40k with tyranids for no other reason than "because you can't".
 
I'm sorry....am I missing something? I can't see anywhere where it says you have to target in the front ark or can't target a unit in combat?

And it specifically states that you can use it when he's in combat himself!!!!!

oh yea thats good then.
basty can use if he is in combat.
also the 90 arc thing prob doesnt count either.

but "hits, distributed as for shooting"

does it mean that other shooting rules indeed apply? like as that cant target units in CC, like any unit that is indeed fighting bastilandon, and must he see the unit as well? so maybe yes for the 90 arc? i might be missing something myself.

why isnt it just "immediately take 2D6 str 2 hits".. instead of "immediately take 2D6 str 2 hits, distributed as for shooting"

Distributed as shooting just means that if the unit hit is a mixed unit, you need to roll to see which units are hit. I.e. If you hit a skaven unit of rat ogres, you'd roll to see if you hit an ogre or packmaster.

The ruling would specify front arc and not units in combat if applied.

I am fairly certian, that like in our last book, all the attacks that mention
all units within XD6 take damage are not shooting attacks or targeting attacks.
they just hit everything within range, just like everyone played it a couple of months ago.
