8th Ed. army building help!

i recently started whfb as lizardmen
i picked up a few miniatures on frieday and i have

stegadon
skink chief with a blowpipe
skink chief
skink priest
40 skinks
2 sallamander hunting packs.


ive got about 120 dollars and i need more points so i can do and escalation with my friends.

what should i buy to expand and what list would u use. HELP!
 
I'd suggest the battalion box, it gives you those core troops you need (skinks, saurus, cavalry). cavalry kinda suck these days but they are fun to use. riding dinosaurs into battle is never a bad thing!

if it's an option, check ebay for good deals and maximize what you can get for your $$$.

you'll also want a lord character. slann are a great choice, carnosaur is good too. that would be about the money you have left over after getting your battalion. you could kit-bash a saurus lord from what you have if you wanted to save the cash, but if i was you i'd get that battalion and a slann.

thanks! what would be a good ist i could run with my models and the battalions? should i get xtra saurus box or temple guard box?
 
Get a slann for sure. A box of temple guard would probably be a good way to go as well. Maybe a box of saurus too. This is with the battalion box. You can actually convert 10 or 15 skinks into chameleons.

i wouldn't bother with temple guard until you get a Slann, since you've already got 40 skinks (+ the 24 [i think?] you'll have with the batallion), i'd recomment boosting your Saurus count (16 or so come with the battalion).

12 skkinks come with battleforce 16 suarus 8 col one riders and 10 tg so i should get an xtra box of suares with this? even with only the 12 skinks

it comes with 20 saurus warriors, 12 skinks and the rest were correct.

the CoC arent any good, temple guard arent great right now unless you get alot and a slann.

start with 2 boxes of saurus and a box of skinks. that'll give you 32 saurus and 24 skinks...about $105.
then use the rest on a scarvet.

so that leaves me with

Thats a nice set to start with and you could save money by converting a saurus into a scar vet instead of buying one, how? let you imagination run wild, converting is probably the best bit of the hobby IMO!!!!

Sample list for you with those models:

Heros:
Scar Vet- use 1 saurus model and convert
Skink Preist
Skink Chief
Skink Chief- Blowpipe

Core:

31 Saurus- Full command, either HW/S or Spears, your call
- scar vet joins the unit

19 Skink Cohorts- Javelin and shield
- put chief here
- hide the preist in here so he gets his 2+ look out sir save, use for flanking the enemy

10 Skink Skirmishers- Blowpipes- * add blowpipe chief in any of these 4 units

10 Skink Skirmishers- Blowpipes

10 Skink Skirmishers- Blowpipes

10 Skink Skirmishers- Blowpipes

Special:

9 Chameleons- Convert from 9 normal skinks

Stegadon

Rare:

Sally hunting pack

Sally hunting pack


Total for the above before adding anymore items/equipment= 1499 points

Now add into that upgrades such as an extra level for your preist, command groups and such things, i'd say you could build a good 1750 list with this, you certainly have enough troops thats for sure. this could even be streatched to 2000, possibly by making the scar vet an oldblood for your lord. If you want a slaan however you will probably need at leat 20 TG to hide him in, then with a bit of jiggling about, get a 2.5k list out of it.

It has saurus warriors, temple guard(for the magepriest) and more skinks.
Make many skink units w/ javelins each unit with a maximum of 10
you will have 6x10 skinks w/ javelins
Put on the stegadon a skink chief w/ steg. warspear (more impact hits)

if he wants a skink army then the battalion box wont be a good choice, it only has 12 skinks. the saurus and CoC wont be in his army list and the TG wont be enough to effectively gaurd the slann. and off a $120 budget he wont have enough left to buy the slann and getting the battalion. $90 + $41.25 = $131.25.

he's be better off buying 2 sets of TG and a Slann for $107.25 and saving the rest til he has enough for another box of 24 skinks.

If you wanted to run a Scar Vet/Oldblood. Out of the box of Saurus, make 15 into your Core unit and then add some of the shoulder pads onto the last Saurus, add a different sheild (Temple Guard?) and position the arm a bit different. And this saves you the $33+ for the metal model? :D
 
first of all, I just wanna say that I have converted all of my chameleon skinks from regular skinks (saved a pretty penny)

there you have a picture on 1 of my scar-vets, he is nothing more than a saurus champion, but i think he looks ok. hes also painted slightly different from the other saurus.


if you want a skink army, you should not buy the battalion.
Insted, I´d try get my hands on some kroxigors.
I´d also buy tehenhauin, who is the perfect leader for a skink army.
actually, saurus is not a must if you make sure to make a solid line out of skrox units (skrox= skinks and kroxigors)
and some other skinks SSkinks and chamo skinks.
A stegadon or 2 is nice, get some priests too, you get 1 along with the stegadon box.

just make a shout if you need help with an army list!

Get some saurus. They tough, and good CC fighters. Scar Veteran (or Oldlood), and a Slann.
Or get the Battalion, and an oldblood, and a slann.
