Hi again,

Since my last thread "all around best 2k army list" was pretty successful, I might as well try my luck asking you all what your favored 1k army lists are for serious, casual, or any other setting. A lot of the forum posts I've looked at were pretty old so I'm wondering what you guys roll with for 1k matched play in AoS2.

Detailed army lists and strategies are welcome :).

>inb4 fill your battleline with skinks

There are two list I really enjoy for 1k games. The first is a glass cannon Shadowstrike Starhost. I only use it in semi-competitive environments. The second is a Saurus Warrior and support list.

Shadowstrike Starhost

Allegiance: Seraphon

LEADERS:
Skink Starpriest
(80)
- General
- Command Trait : Master of Star Rituals
- Artefact : Light of Dracothion

UNITS:
6 x Ripperdactyl Riders (280)
40 x Skinks (180)
-Boltspitters & Star Bucklers
30 x Skinks (240)
-Boltspitters & Star Bucklers

BATTALIONS:
Shadowstrike Starhost (180)
TOTAL: 960/1000

Saurus

Allegiance: Seraphon
Mortal Realm: Ghyran

LEADERS:
Slann Starmaster
(260)
- General
- Command Trait : Great Rememberer
Saurus Sunblood (120)
- Artefact : Ghyrstrike
Skink Starpriest (80)

UNITS:
40 x Saurus Warriors (360)
-Spears
10 x Skinks (60)
-Boltspitters & Star Bucklers
3 x Razordons (120)
TOTAL: 1000/1000

@LizardWizard is a battalion worth it in 1k? The shadowstrike list looks great but seems to be a gamble. Do you prefer your saurus list and is summoning viable in 1k?

Battalions are good but costly at 1000.I tend to not use them with such few points.

Here's a list I have already tested (not the best one, but sufficiently good).

- Slann (Vast intellect)
- EotG
- Oldblood on carno
- 3 x Rippers
- 2 x 10 skinks

You can have good summoning and should be able do adapt your tactics to the match.
You have movement, sufficient battlefield control, utilities by EotG, some good melee power and you should be able to teleport and charge the intended target with a 50% chance.

@Killer Angel do you like running that list? What list do you usually run? Is there some sort of repository of tourney viable lists on this site?

Shadowstrike Starhost is the only battalion I run at 1k. If you prioritize your targets correctly at 1k with Shadowstrike you will cripple your opponent on turn one. So battalions can certainly be winning list, but I wouldn't call them good list as it results in a bad game experience either way it swings.

Well, with that list I won a tournament, so I'd say it satisfied me. Actually I'm pondering a couple of ideas, I'll post them when they will be more clear.
Anyway, the core is always a Slann.

Regarding tourney lists, we have tournaments reports in this section

I got some shifty eyes at the store when they saw me buy 2 boxes of rippers...

Rippers in the very first days of 2nd ed were absolute beasts, probably one of the strongest unit in all AoS (judging from a point cost / power level).
With the FAQ that has changed their attack profile, rippers are "only" a solid choice. ;)

LoL. Yep. That is to be expected. If you want to be that guy then go for the 1k Shadowstrike. Piloted well you should be able to effectively win most matches on turn one. MaxSU Sink bomb with six Rippers should allow you to remove at least two enemy leaders and one of their wrecking ball units. If your Rippers are able to kill your opponent's linchpin and avoid retaliation you will gain a strong advantage that will almost certainly snowball in your favor.

Speaking of deepstrikes, how do we as seraphon players counter such strategies?

@LizardWizard I'm guessing that there isn't a way to fit a slann into a decent 1k shadowstrike list with rippers is there? I'm trying to follow @Killer Angel 's idea to have the slann as the centerpiece of the army.

My local gameshop is having a couple of matches for newbies to AoS and I want to look like I know what I'm doing lmao.

You would have to choose between the two. The standard Slann, Saurus Astrolith Bearer, EotGs, and Skink Spam is probably the best way to build a 1k list for summoning. Razordons are also point for point better in 1k than Bastiladons. So if you are looking for range support then I would go with Razordons. I love to bring Skink Starpriest whenever possible. They are good at any point level, but at 1k you can frequently debuff 1/3rd or more of your opponents army with Summon Starlight.

@LizardWizard I sort of want my 1k to build into my 2k (a shadowstrike list) so I'm not really planning on buying an EotG anytime soon (it's not like they're ever going to get restocked anyways). I just came up with the list below which is somewhat of a hybrid of your list and Killer Angel's. Do you think it's competitive?

+ Leader +
Saurus Astrolith Bearer [160pts]
Slann Starmaster [260pts]

+ Battleline +
Saurus Guard [180pts]: 2x 5 Saurus Guard
Skinks [120pts]: 2x 10 Skinks, Boltspitters and Star-bucklers

+ Other +
Ripperdactyl Riders [280pts]: 2x 3 Ripperdactyl Riders

++ Total: [1000pts] ++

It should preform fairly well. I love my Saurus Guard. The models for them are lovely and they are very fun to paint, however they are weak to mortal wounds. Personally, for 180 points I would take another 20 Skinks and a 20 point endless spell. If you have access to Razordons I would consider taking some of them and dropping down to one unit of three Rippers for the time being. I do like to have a unit of Rippers to start with purely for the Bloat Toad, but I think you are better off summoning the other three.

Great input on 1K lists! With the saurus list, what do you choose to summon first? Etog turn two? Skink priest?

I only have 40 skinks so I'm saving the other 20 for summoning purposes lmao. I'm using hysh as a realm since they have some mortal wound reducing artefacts and great remember on slann for curse of fates to reduce the likelihood of 6's to mortal wounds in order to help protect my guards, which in turn would act as a screen/body guard to the slann and astrolith bearer as they move as one block.....sike I'm just attached to my guards.
***GW give buffs to guards pls (>;_;)>***

I don't have razordons because 1) they ugly and 2) I don't have $90 + tax lying around. Jokes aside, if I drop 1 unit of rippers, which of these models would you replace it with (since they're the only ones I own):
  • Eternity Warden
  • Sunblood
  • Oldblood on foot
  • Scarvet on CO
  • Chamo Skinks
  • Skink Priest/Starpriest
  • Knights
  • Warriors
  • More skinks to get the full 40 unit
I actually have a crapload of saurus units since I was originally building for a bloodclaw in 2k but you know how bad GW is with quality control on the rules.

I'd summon blue eyes white dragon tbh since they banned the egyptian gods from matched play.

It depends on the situation. Seraphon's summoning is so powerful because of how broad our options spread. We are essentially able to sideboard our entire collections allowing us absurd flexibility. If I prefer to wait till turn two to summon an EotG. If the map is objective heavy or has a backline object I want to leave I will summon Skinks.
