Hi all! I'm entering into my first tournament soon and was wanting some advice on the following list:

Lord 305
Slann (with light and rumination)
- Plaque of Protection

Core 712
20x Saurus Warriors
- banner, musician, spears

Skrox (24 skinks / 3 kroxigors)
- Command

11x Skink skirmishers (BP's)

10x Skink skirmishers (BP's)

Special 150
5x Cham Skinks

3xTerradon Riders

Rare 80
Salamander
- Extra handler

Totals 1247 points.

I've been toying a lot with this list, trying to find a healthy balance which can take on all armies. I have another salamander I really wanted to include, a skink priest (for dispel scroll mostly), and a stegadon. Unfortunately I can't have it all :)

I want it to be competitive but the following restrictions apply:
-No more than 400 points for Lord/Heroes combined
-No more than 700 points for special/rare combined
-Equal to or more core choices than rare or special combined
-No proxy-ing (this means I'm stuck with spears on the saurus for example)

I've tried to make it so that at least one unit in the army will be able to cope with anything I come up against (hordes, monsters, high AS knights, war machines etc.) My main question is: would you go with skrox or stegadon? They both fill a similar role in the army but I felt the skrox did it slightly better (and don't rely as much on the *unpredictable* charge!)

Sorry for such a long post but I'd really like to know your thoughts! Thanks!

I will throw my 2 cents in.
I would probably chose between the chams and the terrys, i would think that other units in your army need the points as opposed to having two units that can harass and pick of war machines/separate heroes.

Probably looking to grab another salamander with those extra points.

Drop off one of the kroxs (and maybe some skinks), you should probably be using this unit to flank more often than not, so the reduced size should enable you to maneuver abit better.

Put a few more saurus in that unit, at 1250 if you have a few more it will be alot harder to break it, plus you can keep there biggest threat on hold as u flank it.

That might just be a little more sturdy.

Thanks for your 2 cents xpotec :)

Regarding the chams and terradons, I'm unsure. Whilst they can both be used as war machine hunters, I find terradons are excellent at manoeuvring around the board and rear charging etc. to help other combats (Cham skinks are great but just die after turn 1 or 2 in my experience :) ) I'll have to think about it. If I do take one out, I'll definitely try to get that 2nd salamander back.

Regarding the skrox, I see your point about manoeuvrability but feel that 2 kroxs won't be enough to do anything meaningful (6 attacks at WS 3 isn't great odds of doing many wounds...) Maybe just have 3 krox without the skinks? It's more risky but I could get my sally back and another group of skirmishers (to have enough core choices to balance the special/rare choices). Salamanders would have to go together.

What think you?

OK, I've done a bit of fiddling and changed a few things around:

Lord 305
Slann (with light and rumination)
- Plaque of Protection

Hero 90
Skink Priest
- Dispel Scroll

Core 412
20x Saurus Warriors
- banner, musician, spears

12x Skink skirmishers (BP's)

10x Skink skirmishers (BP's)

Special 292
6x Cham Skinks

4xKroxigor

Rare 150
2xSalamander

Similar list to the first, mostly just got rid of skrox and terradons, added 4 krox, another salamander and skink priest. I would be screening the krox with one of the skirmisher groups, giving them hard cover (I think) to give protection on the flank.

I think I'll have to play with it to get a feel for it before the tournament. Please let me know if you've any thoughts.
