There's been some talk about the Cold one buss lately and I thought I'd give it a try tonight.

It's going to be a pitched Battleline 1500pts per player. Lizards and the new Woodies vs. Beastmen and Daemons. So the blocks I imagine fighting will probably consist of plague bearers, bestigors and/or minutaurs. I want Slann for this battle and my main concern is how much I should kit out my scar-vets and what else to bring.

Slann: 375pts

Wandering Deliberations, Harmonic Convergence and Channeling Staff

3xScar-Vets

Cold one, GW, LA

Leaves some points for BSB or some magic items

OR

2xScar-vets

Cold one, GW, Dragonhelm+LA OR Glittering Scales, Dawnstone

Cold one, GW, Armour of Destiny

Leaves points for Skink Priest and/or BSB I think.

What do you think? Red or blue? They will be accompanied by a 6-7 CoC.

Core I was thinking of a block of saurus with HW+Shield

Other than that I don't really know, maybe 2 salamanders + extra snack? If anyone can give me any pointers as to what to avoid in the beastmen-army that would help!

blue.

I would fill core with skinks for redirection and blocking.
if you are relying on one combat block you will want to dictate who it meets.

also, I think you should run an oldblood and cut down on the slann pts.

2 scar vets isnt really a bus ;)

I dont really understand the emphasis on oldbloods, unless you are going to kit them at 100 points of magical items they seem a little too expensive for +1 wound/attack.
2 OB with gear and mounts seems about the same as 3 SV with gear and mounts in point cost (in a general sense). Both sets have 6 wounds, SV get 12 attacks, OB get 10. They sort of balance out. The only benefit to OBs I see is that you can get a rerollable 1+ armor and ward vs. a rerollable 2+ no ward, this of course comes at a cost.

Take spears vs beastmen, they hit hard and will almost always be in hord formation so you will want the xtra rank of attacks. be aware that hes gonna have more drops than you, his units are dirt cheep for how good they are. T4 makes most of ur magic missles mediocre at best so i agree with putting more points into oldbloods over a slann.

Take the oldbloods. pure survivability, a tricked out oldblood with 1+ as, 4+ws, s7(great weapon) and WS 6 will stand up to anything short of a Gorebull and walk away a winner. scar vets may give an extra attack but they will die to a wargol, which is sure to make an appearance at any point level.

I can see a buss dealing some good damage but gor herds can take a lot of damage, and beastlord L10 or Wargol L8 is hard to break.

Gl with the match, let us know how it goes

Spears don't give you an extra rank on cavalry.

Thanks for the replies! I'll write some form of bat-rep later this evening! :)

Alright, match went good! Victory to the forces of order!

We were facing:

Beastmen:

Doombull (S8 +1AS blender deluxe edition)

Hero BSB

Bray Shaman lvl 1 with Wyssans

Horde of Gors (Bsb and shaman in here)

Ghorgon

3 Minotaurs

1 Very angry looking boar! (Referred to as Pumba)

Ambushing unit of Gors

Daemons of (mostly) Nurgle:

Epidemius (this guy...)

Herald of Nurgle

Horde of Plague Bearers

3 Plague drones

3 Bases of Nurglings

3 Bloodcrushers

Some kind of ambushing hounds that never emerged

Forces of Order:

Wood Elves:

General Elf

BSB Elf

Unit of archers

24 Dryads

6 Tree Kin

3 Warhawks

6 Wardancers

2x6 Glade Riders ambushing

Lizardmen:

Slann, Wandering, Harmonic, Channeling Staff

Scar-vet BSB, Cold one, Armour of Fortune, GW

Scar-vet, Cold one, LA, Dragon Helm, Dawnstone, GW

Skink Priest, lvl 1 Heaven got thunderbolt switched for signature

21 Skink Cohort, Poison attacks, Banner + Musician

3x10 Skink Skirmishers w. Jav & Shield

6 CoC, Banner + Musician

2 Salamanders + 2 extra handlers

The battle 3 rounds from right to left:

Right flank:

I sent the CoC-bus after the Doombull on the right flank, they died...horribly! I just thought he was like a tricked out Minotaur or something, not a +400pts lord of utter destruction! Basically S8, +1AS re-roll, if he makes the save he gets and additional attack, of which there were plenty to begin with on his profile! :depressed:
He began with picking off the 6 riders I managed to get one wound in with the bus before the scar-vets ran through a unit of skirmishers (forgot about the BSB dies from a failed break test but this got rectified when we began counting VPs). Doombull eventually got into the skirmishers and in turn 3 when he got free Slann got off 6 hits with searing doom, turned him to cinders! :bored:

The Ghorgon on this flank first took 2 wounds from a Spirit Leech shot through the skink priest, then a volley of poisoned javelins managed to take him down the remaining 4!

Pumba was whittled down in the last round by elven fire and wardancers!

For magic they had one lvl 1 Bray Shaman, and no dispel scroll, and my priest ended up next to an Elven Waystone so I was channeling four dices on 5-up which was nice!

Epidemius was hiding in the backfield behind a "Pillar" of Khaine. Turn two both units of glade riders came out from the woodwork, ambushes him from behind and eventually killing him by the end of turn three.

The Plague Drones and the War Hawks duked it out in the middle but the drones caught the hawks before the skink cohort finally got the charge in! Ended up in a stalemate. :meh:

Plague Bearers and Gors made their way into the forest. Dryads moved up to the edge of the forest to gain poison for the attacking models while keeping steadfast. Salamanders crawled closer and got two great volleys on the Gors, which charged the Dryads and eventually got obliterated and sent the shaman fleeing and the BSB tripping over his hooves. The Plague Bearers because of their width never had a chance to get a charge in before they managed to reform so they never really saw battle. o_O

Minotaurs climbed the hill and got shot by poison-tipped javelins which reduced their number to two before they could reach the skinks. Which after a heroic courage of snake eyes eventually got sent running.

The Nurglings tried to get at the other unit of skirmishers but failed their charge. The skinks backed up to block the newly emerged Gors from landing a charge onto the Tree Kin giving them time to reform and eventually land the charge instead. The Nurglings effectively denied the Blood Crushers from ever seeing combat :) However the Nurglings did succeed with ramming the flank of the Tree Kin and actually caught them on a terribly low pursuit roll. :(

The End.

We decided to call it quits there, Forces of Evil gave away something like 1,400 pts compared to Forces of Order that gave away ~1000 pts. But between the fleeing skirmishers and what was left of the dryads etc. the game would probably have been lost had we continued. ;)

I opted for Skink only core on your recommendation Phat, first time I left home without saurus warriors and to my surprise it worked out beautifully! I'm never leaving the temple without at least 3 skirmishing units! The poisoned attacks cohort is pretty decent I got to say but the low leadership will, despite rank stubborn, send them running 50% of the time if left without a generals Ld.

The CoC+Scar-vet match up was just sad, I honestly thought that Doom bull was a bit of a blinged out minotaur...

Anyway, hope the report wasn't too confusing to read. I couldn't be bothered to make a new thread for it because then I want it to be better written with turn based comments and proper pictures and not just paintjob-stuff. :)
