Played two 1k 8th ed. games last night. I did play as LM vs VC then vs HE. A few things came up for me.

1. how to dell with the HE 'mage knight' which is a HE prince which is a lvl 1 wizard, also had 2+ AS, 5+ ward and a GW. He took lore of death and the signature spell 12"(24") on a character, both characters roll D6 and add unmodified Ld(his is 10) and what ever he beats you by you take a wound(No AS). And man does it hurt. Also a VC player could do the same sort of thing.

2.Does the trickster's Helm protect you for KB? (we played it did, then then on the re-roll the wight king 5+ KB me.)

1. the price is NOT a mage. the only way he can be is with the wizards hat wich makes him a lvl 2 wizard but the lore and spells are random. HE do have an item that allwos them to chose the spells they get ( wich i think he had) but thats an arcane items and only works for wizards. all VC vampires are wizards, necromancers aswell, starting with level 1 and i think vampire heroes can get to lvl 3, while lords to lvl 4. they have a forbiden lore gift that allwos them to use any lor except life so if the same thing happend it was legal, alltough heroes have Ld7, don't know about lords.
it is worth mentioning that WOC have an item that makes the bearer a lvl 1 wizard but that is not the case here.

2. unless it writes "the bearer is immune to killing blow" the item does not make you immune to killing blow. there are a few items that say that, i have no clue wha the trickester's Helm does. look for that text, if its there you get immunity, if it's missing, you don't
 
Trickster helm: Counts Armor Save as one point higher. Any successful wound made against the wearer of the trickster helm must be rerolled.
 
Bibamus@ the prince had the 'Radient gem of hoeth" which makes him a level 1 high magic mage, which can take high magic or any of the eight lores

VC heroes are lvl 1 and lords are lvl 2 and can be upgrade to lvl 3 and vamps can take vamp power that upgrade to the next lvl. And lords are Ld10

cupped hands + bane head? send him a miscast do deal with his unit and weaken him quite a bit and then maybe a scar vet with the BBoC to ignore his 2+ save, or just snipe him with lore of death

edit: wait a minute.... wizards can't wear armour according to the BRB, you could check that rule maybe you can make him lose his armour save
