8th Ed. 800 points: Scar Veteran vs. Skink priest

If you had 200 points to spend on Heroes, which would you pick for 800 points competitive and with what build? And how would plan to use it?

Lvl 2 Priest solo. Kit him up to stop the enemy magic phase (i.e. dispel scroll and such). Keep him behind an anvil unit, off to the side a little bit. Cross my fingers for Chain Lightning or T-bolt.

I know it would be spendy, but I would also take a TG unit with a Champion and a magic weapon. That way I would have an amateur SV / ethereal killer.

for low point games, it might be worthwhile getting ruby ring for the priest. then you are guaranteed a flaming magic missile for those ethearals. he can even use it alongside a dispel scroll.

Skink Priest, Level 2, Diadem of Power, Plaque of Tepok
..........with 2 x 18 Saurus, Spears; 12 Skinks S, blowpipes; and Salamander.

Any thoughts?

not bad, though i am not a fan of the diadem in this edition. overall it looks solid enough though.

You can even have both if you want. 25% is 200. A lvl1 priest and Scar-Vet are 150 leaving 50 for items. You could take a lvl1 Priest with Diadem and a Scar-Vet with L.A., Shield, Poison of Firefly Frog and can take what ever other 5pt item you want.

Diadem and plaque are both arcane. Diadem is brokenly powerful at this level.
I recommend using hw shield, not spears. People argue for spears because they are too lazy to convert to hws.
Drop the skinks and get your blocks of saurus bigger. You are slow and having bigger blocks means you can survive walk to and receiving the i2+ blows to dish 18 s4 attacks. Chameleons will be incredibly helpful as well.

I would be tempted to go with Omar with this one, but my one fear is the low ld which our characters have at this points level. If you can I would just take a level 1 with dispell scroll and try to fit a Scar-Vet in with the Crown of Command or possibly make him your BSB and give him the Standard of Discipline.

In lower point games we often can have an LD which is as bad as Skaven's. It is somewhat migitated by the Cold Blooded Special rule, but nothing irks me more than Saurus, genetically engineered warriors, fleeing from a fight.

Do think its safe to have only a Scar veteran on a cold one with crown of command? He can go wizard hunting, undead general hunting, or just charge a unit and tie them up.
