Good afternoon all.

I have a quandry, I've been out of the WFB game for a few years and have been roped into helping out with a local school group and getting them ready for the school league tournament. Ive been completely ignorant of 8th ed as a whole and now find myself needing to build a competitive list to play some games.

I've chosen Lizardmen because I love the models and as it should be a small force I'm hoping I can really put the work into them.

Right now I have the following

Scar Vet/Oldblood
Skink Priest
36 Saurus
36 Skinks
10 Temple Guard

I need to design an 800 point list using the basic army stipulations and I'm completely stumped on where to start.

Can you all help and post some sample lists that may be competitive in this points bracket?

hi man! this will be fun :)
now I´ve got a pretty nice standard 800pts list, but that includes both chameleon skinks and salamanders.

so perhaps you want a list looking something like this:

Oldblood, lt. armour and shield (goes in saurus unit)

skink priest, plaque of tepok, lvl 2.

30 saurus, full com.

2x10 skink skirmishers, javelins and shields.

total 796
since you dont have that much stuff, I think using heroes like this could work.

Pleaes feel free to post your standard list, I've no problems with sorting out extra models. I'm tempted to convert up some chameleon skinks anyway.

The list you posted certainly looks a lot different from what I'm used to in 7th ed! I've noted it down and will have a ponder on it.

Is one large unit of saurus better than smaller ones at this points level?

well imo, they are. really.

ok here´s one for you:

skink priest, plaque of tepok

30 saurus

10 chamo skinks

2 salamanders

very, very simple list, maybe not as interesting as the previus one but...
chamos can really pay of, even at only 800pts. chamo skinks goes warmachine-hunting.
ceep the priest close or even within the skink unit, granting him a "look out sir!" roll.

I've come up with a list myself, that I feel a little more comfortable with, based on the two that have been posted so far:

Skink Priest - 80
Plaque of tepok

Double post? lol

I think you'll find that having only 11 or 12 saurus in a unit, You'll be beaten by static combat rez against mediocre enemies. In 2k I run 2 squads of 25, the amount of ranks I have usually gives me steadfast, which is invaluable.

Scar vet / Oldblood, Awsome, and I prefer a halberd to GW, you keep your initiative for a swap of -1 strength, at strength 5 already, It makes more sense to have a halberd imo.

A double post indeed. I'd allowed my laptop to install the trash that is known as IE9 and it cause me no end of issues.

I know the unit sizes are small, but its only 800 points. I dont know if that makes a difference though?

Would you reccomend the list with 2 units of 15 then?

Think I like the double salamander list the best.
 
I'd say 15 in each would be perfect, Complete ranks of 5 wide for a fudge of Combat rez. Maybe you could drop the chameleon skinks to 1 squad of 7 or 8?

Ok, so assuming I drop a unit of the chameleon skinks I have 97 points left. I can increase that to 127 if I were to drop the spears (do I need them?).

What do I spend 97/127 points on?

Intentional double post this time!

I've just had a thought and may have come up with another list that takes several of teh previpously posted lists and mashes them together....tell me what you think?

Scar Vet - 107
Halberd, Light Armour, Shield, Venom of the Firefly

Skink Priest - 80
Plaque of tepok

14 Saurus - 186
Spears, Musician, Champion

15 Saurus - 210
Spears, Full Command

6 Chameleon Skinks - 72

Salamander - 75

Salamander - 75


Total 795.


It loses the champion and a single saurus from one unit (though the scar vet will go into this unit to make it back up to 15 strong), shrinks the remaining unit of chameleon skinks and adds 2 salamanders.

Whats the opinion?

That looks awsome! With 5 points left, thats an extra snack for one of the sallies!

Should do well, quite like that list.

Hi. I played at the School League for my school's WHFB team. We won and got through to the Internationals but bizzarely our school did not allow us to go... annoying.
Anyway, I used a Salamander because they are effective against Elves and probably Horde armies if you can get them into a good position and cause Panic tests. Always take the extra Handler in case of a Misfire.
I had a unit of 20 Saurus and normally, 5 or 6 die but they can still fight off almost any Core combat unit. In my case, only two or three actually died in my games and they didn't play a massive part.
I took Krox, and they killed a Vamp general in the first game. The opponent won't ignore them. But, against good shootiung they may die.
You MUST take a Skink priest, at least for magic defence. I used Diadem of Power.
Watch out for Knights and Cannons even more so!

Is there any chance of you posting the actual list you took to the tournament? Also, what armies (and rough lists if you remember them) did you face? What was the standard of competitiveness?

I like those list, one thing though.
for me, units of 6 chameleons deont do much realy, I´d say go for at least 8 of them.
 
I usually only take a unit of 5 and they destroy almost anything I put them against, today against VC, Black coach dead before it moved!

He was most annoyed at my 60 points of goodness XD

I would also much rather a larger unit, however it is finding the points for them that is the issue. I think that the only way i could do such a thing would be to drop the magic item off of the priest, but I am reticent to do so.

Any other idea's on how I could fit them in?

Hello. I just noticed this thread again. Take Saurus, loads and loads of Saurus. In my new list, I have 40! Yes, 40 models who are toughness 4 and have a 4+ save! Then, take a priest. And some skinks and a Salamander.
