Hi everyone! I've been looking at these forums for months, and having finally got an army together have created my first list. I'm playing the old (previous) edition, but have posted this in the hope that people will understand the general idea, and that sililar tactics still apply. I'm playing friendly 3K games against Wood Elves, High Elves and Bretonnia.

2nd Gen
BSB
Totem of Prophecy
Plaque of Tepok

Slann (heavens)
2nd Gen
Diadem of Power

Dispel Scroll

Skink Priest

Temple Guardx26

Skinks blowpipesx 11

Skinks Javelinsx12

Skinks Javelinsx12

Chameleon Skinksx10

Total 3003

DD: 10

I'm going for a points denial, magic heavy. Any thoughts would be very much appreciated. And before people say it, I KNOW that 2x 2nd Gen Slann in a 3K list is MADNESS. It is a friendly list, but I'm posting it here because it's no fun to get wiped out in three turns.

Thanks everyone!

It is rather hard to tell with this list how to comment since you said you aren't using 8th edition. Since this list is not legal in 8th, you don't have enough core unit points (750 pts minimum for a 3000 pt army). Are your friends ok with you using a previous edition and are they doing the same thing? If they are using 8th edition, things will unravel quick as magic is quite a bit different now and not compatible with previous editions (limit 12 PD a phase, channelilng different, etc).

I am not sure why you would want a slann with lore of heavens especially if you're taking 3 (!) level 2 skink priests in a dual slann list. I would shave off 2 of those priests, and change the lore of that heavens slann to shadow or death. Shadow to have hexes to complement your light augments or death to snipe enemy characters and generate more dispel dice using the lore attribute. And why would you have a diadem of power on your slann? If you are going magic heavy, you'll want to use all the dice you can in your magic phase, not save them for dispel dice.

I think this list needs some meat to it. Two units of temple guards I don't think is enough firepower to take on another 3000 pt army. Put some saurus blocks in there and maybe a stegadon or two. Get rid of 2-3 units of skinks you have in there. And for goodness sakes, get some sallies!

Of course all of this advice is 8th edition centric so it may not make a bit of difference to you. Feel free to disregard.

Thank you SO much battlehamster, I really appreciate the input. Yes my friends will be using the same rules (6th) as we used to play warhammer a while ago. I've decided against Sallies, just because I don't like unreliable troops. Same goes for Cold Ones. However, I think you're probably right in saying that I need another unit of Saurus and some sort of hammer (Steg). The list is legal in 6th, so that's all fine. Also, what's your (and everyone elses) experience with putting all your eggs in one basket? I.e. two Slann in a 3K list? Obviously sometimes it all goes horribly wrong, but does it generally work, if a bit cheesy?

Thanks!

Will

While I haven't run a dual slann list yet (I have one ready, just haven't had a chance to use it yet) I haven't had much trouble with my Temple Guard and Slann (who together usually equal 800+ pts). They are pretty durable and I've only lost my Slann a couple times and that was usually because the rest of my army was already annhiliated. If you utilize the lore of life, your Slann + TG will be uber survivable (regen, +toughness, regrowth).

The biggest problem I would see with dual slann is not having enough power dice to make two of them viable (hence why at least one of them would be death for me so I could hopefully conjure up some extra PD due to the lore attribute). Usually one slann is enough to adequately control a magic phase.
