Ok here is my List for a game against ogres and beasts of chaos, everybody against everybody.

General:

I am a little worried about having 4 really expensive models on the table. I am curious how this will work out since i have notyet much experience with our new book.
I know that temple guard are great in the new book, but i don't own any yet so don't make any suggestions in that direction

Other than that feel free to leave comments and criticism!

Not sure, but think I would go for Razordons vs Ogres and beastmen. They don't have much armor and doesn't come in large units...
Never played any of them, but think the extra strenght would prove usefull as they both are tough armies.
And the possibility for 2 artillerydices vs angry charging ogres could really make the difference.

When it comes to sizes on your troops I think you've put your army well together. But I'm afraid I cant help you much on the tactical aspects... doesn't beastmen use some kind of atatchments, Gors nd Ungors? and they'r skirmishers right? In that case they would be very hard to marchblock, so a supreme slann could do the trick, but a combined charge of your steggies and the carno, should be able to take down pretty much anything your opponents have to throw at you...

I don't know what models you have, and I'm guessing you don't whant to proxy, but I would like to see even more skinks prefferably as skirmishers. These buggars is a pain in the *** against all non-armor/low armor units.

I do have plenty more of skinks (about 70 in total) and i would like to field some more but i am not sure where to get the points. maybe my slann can do with two disciplines and the priest does not need tepok.... And you might be right about the razordons, but the main reason i took the sallies is that they cause panik tests and ogrea as well as beasts have Ld problems. In addition i might choose the death lore for the -3 ld spell.

I will give an update on how the game went when i get home. Now, off to war =)

Ok it went really good. We each had a miasion objective in our deployment zone and one was in the middle. In the end I held one and the beastmen had one. One more turn and i would also have gotten the objective in the ogre's deployment zone. I don't remember many details so i won't be able to write a battle report but i will give a short breakdown of my units and their deeds.

Slann: B-
Nothing special. He had the death lore, fired a few magic missiles here and there. Once i got the -3 to Ld spell through and the salamanders caused panic on that unit which then ran for it's life. 4 ogres less to worry about, nice combo. I had a miscast in the first turn, luckily the cupped hands saved me. But later in the fourth turn he had himself killed by a miscast. I hate the new slann rules.

Oldblood: A
This guy wreaked total havoc amongst several ogre units. The Blade of realities is an absolute nightmare for an ogre player with that many multiple wound models with relatively low Ld. The carno was nice too, but I don't know if the frenzy was worth it. The battle was won anyway after the oldbloods attacks. The carnosaur was a nice bonus but I think with more control over the model he could even have done more damage.

Skink Priests and engine: C
Nothing special here. Also zapped a few enemys with lightning and laser, but overall i was disappointed by the engines damage, but that might be because of bad rolls on my side. The large target's line of sight was quite useful though.

Skink Chief on Steg: B+
BS 5 with the giant bow is really nasty, and it's charge is devestating. Quite satisfied with this guy.

Saurus: B
Did their job. one unit did pretty bad and was annihilated by a charge of 20 gors, but the other was really good and managed to kill 5 ogres and a butcher, although they took heavy losses.

Skinks: A
These guys never fail my expectations (which are admittedly not very high usually). A unit of skinks was charged by centigors, stand and shoot killed three and the 200 something point unit fled from the board. another unit did the same to a few ogre bulls. Sure plenty of them were killed, but they more than earned their points back. got to love them.

CoC: C
They did not really get to do much. I miss my old huanchi banner on them.

Teradons: B
As good as always, if not better. They killed a few gnoblar trappers and got a rear charge on some ogres who were already fighting with saurus, which was then more than the ogres could handle.

Salamanders:
They did not really kill much, but I got two units running from panic. Really good in combination with the -3 Ld spell.


In the end nearly 800 points of my army were dead (half of which killed itself with a miscast -_-). there were still as many lizards standing as ogres and beasts combined so all in all i am pretty satisfied with this list.

I love this style of battle summary, it gives a good feel for a list's strengths and weaknesses.

Glad to see the Oldblood performs well with that setup, as it is what I'm planning for my Lord choice eventually. Bad luck with your Slann.

Seems like the engine of the gods wasn't maximally useful against beasts and ogres, since neither of them are very heavily armored anyway. I guess the same could be said for salamanders, though they provided you the oppotunity to panic some things off, which means they did their job well.

The skink chief seems pretty great with that steg-lance. I don't think I'd be able to resist the urge to put him on an ancient instead. Hopefully we'll confirm the BS5 giant bow with the next Lizardmen FAQ.

I hadn't thought of the problem you'd have with beastmen and their ability to charge in and rank up as skirmishers while still hitting hard. They probably put a ton of attacks into the wide front of the spearmen.

Looks like everything performed pretty well, though I'm curious as to what you think went wrong with the Cold One cav.

Thanks for the feedback. the Cold One Cavalry did not really do anything wrong. I just had to move them in an awkward way (away from an ogre gorger that turned up behind them) and then the saurus got massacred by the beastmen and they overrun into the CoC. only one of the guys died before the stegadons took care of the beasts, but that was the only battle they saw. They did not perform bad by any means, but they just had no opportunity to do much so i can't really give them a good rating.
