8th Ed. 3000 points competitive slann army

So with 8th edition everyone at my local store seems to have gone all daemon and warrior crazy so theres alotta tough competition. I think this is a good take on anybody list, any comments are much appreciated

I would split the terradons into two groups of 3. Also, there is nothing in my book called cohorts.

Yeah, it was introduced in the 6th ed Southlands list. I have never really liked it as it is a Roman term that isn't really fitting of our South American or African themed armies. I was glad GW realized how dumb it was and didn't continue it in 7th.

But in all seriousness, who cares what he called them, we know what he means; I just started lizarmen a week ago and was able to pick up on it, so no harm no foul gents

As for the list, from what I understand and from my test games, skinks are better off in skirmisher formation with blow darts than ranked- they will do more damage/cause more confusion as skirmishers with multiple poison shooting attacks per turn than as ranked javelin-shield units. While other armies might use large blocks of weak infantry, the name of the game for lizzies are blocks of saurus and smaller units of skirmishers to bait/take out weapons crews/potentially damage lone heroes.

I would put a champion in your TG unit to keep your slann from getting challenged. I would also do a couple test games with the terradons- while I love the models and the fluff, I haven't had much luck with them in my test games and have found them to be kinda finicky overall, with many other units available that can perform more reliably, while admittedly not as fast.

Also, while 3 stegadons looks really, really cool, it also means you're not spending points on infantry and unit size, which at the 3k level is almost a necessity: my 3k beasts list has over 160 models in it, and my 3k tomb kings army has almost 125 as well...you might want to consider adding some more units to the list, if for nothing else to give your opponent more to worry about and causing him to split fire/charges!

Other than that, the list looks decently versatile, and certainly fun! Let us know how it goes!

I like blowpipes better too. sometimes I just wonder tho, would that round of shooting gone better with javelins? so instead of replacing a unit of skirmishers i decided to add another of jav n shield guys.

Terradons sure are finicky. I never really use them well, most notably being the total noob move of sitting them on a hilll where a group of gnoblars could walk up and take 40 shots at them simply because i was on the hill, instead of sitting behind the hill where I could next turn drop rocks on some expensive unit of ogres and then march block them next turn. but that was 7th, this is 8th. and they may be more fragile than before hahaha unable to hide totally in woodlands.

As for the model count, I'm not sure I'd benefit greatly from another unit of sauruses. Two dead 'ard units of sauruses I think is enough, though I did run it before, and was considering it now, with another unit of sauruses with hw shield.

Also in three thousand points, as long as the most important unit, my slann tg unit, is intact, I have enough banners to stay in the game. (bsb counts as a banner?)

I like stegadons b/c they can support my hard infantry against warriors and the like, or they can run across the field with the skrox and cohort and skirmishers to get to opponents like HElves.

You need a musician in all your infantry units. You can't combat reform for when which gives units incredible versatility in the movement phase. Especially on Templeguard. Your opponents will soon find many ways to abuse premeasuring against Slanns because when we get in combat we are stuck 1 inch behind a TG and they can still cast on the unit and we cant hit them back. I think Terradon's are overpriced and won't do much against most armies let along WoC and Daemons. They do take out Marauder Horsemen well and can widdle down Horror ranks to reduce dispel power.

Skinks Krox are limited, but if you can support them they work very well. This often means +4 toughness or other defensive augments.

I would never take a Warbanner over a Jaguar Standard or possibly a Blessed Totem. Both are Banners that emphasize the importance of wiping out a unit to gain the points for it.

You should find points to increase the model count in your TG block.

Drop 1 or more Stegadons. Definately drop the Lvl2 and Plaque from your Skink Priest. Roll your 1 spell. Iceshard blizzard is the only spell you will even want to cast outside of what your Slann has. Take magic boosting items like Channeling Staff or defensive like a wardsave or scrolls. People will still dedicate a massive amount of effort to assassinate your EOTG priest. With a Life Slann this can be frustrating in conjunction with an EOTG. I just keep an EOTG or Chief with Ancient in my tournament list. It usuall means +comp now lol.

Last, drop skinks and add chameleons. They drop large targets, protect flanks, and can down a keeper of Secrets before he can even do anything. Chameleons are great for their points.

I usually take huanchi's totem tho to keep up with the stegs
