7th Ed. 2k needs improvements

i've been using this list for the last 2 games against beastmen and WoC and won with a massacre both times. i'm pretty happy with it but i feel there's room for improvement, but i just can't see where. advise apreciated

Slann: Mystery, Rumination, Cupped Hands, Bane Head, Dispel Scroll

SPriest: lvl 2, EotG, Plaque of Tepok, Dispel Scroll

SPriest: lvl 2, Diadem of Power, Cloak of Feathers

Scar-Vet: LA, CO, BBoC, ES

1x 15 Saurus Warriors: Musican, Standard, Spears

1x 16 Saurus Warriors: Musician Standard Spears

2x 10 Skink Skirmishers

1 x 3 Terradons

1x 6 Chameleon Skinks

2x 1 Salamander
1995 pts

either upgrade one unit of saurus to be TG, or give the slann ethereal/regen? though the slann is fairly tough as it is.

how did the salamanders do? everyone on here seems to rave about them, but i cant seem to get the best out of mine, though it would probably help if i ever played an army that actually had a reasonable chance of panicing

what about the priest with cloak of feathers, what does he get used for?


anyways, the list looks extremley solid, most of the things i can think of changing would be a sideways or backwards move rather than improvement anyway

Looks good as I am a big proponent of a lone Slann. However against a shooty army your are gonna want the divine plaque on the Slann, and possibly Higher state of consciousness. Also a unit of skink cohorts is nice to give the Slann "Look out sir" if needed. Otherwise very close to my 2k list. I traded 1 slamander for the tweaks I made.

i can't really afford TG. they cost double as much as saurus and the benefit is not that great.
regarding the salamanders... they actually did the best job when flank charging units. shooting is nice bu panic isn't going to happen unless your oponnent is unlucky or you cast doom and darkness beforehand, but against WoC the -3 armor save is just lovely. they removed a knight and a few warriors while the other unit killed quite a few marauders.
the skink priest on foot is manly for channeling magic missiles where i need them, and it also adds to the survivability of the diadem of power so i don't lose 2 DD if i really need them. if its safe he can also be a great march blocker as long as you give your oponent bigger targets to focus on, i was very pleased with his performance
the lone slann isn't so lonely really. if needed he can go with a unit of saurus untill he's safe to move on his own, i'm usually waiting for my oponent to get to me while herassing with shooting/magic so i don't really mind if my saurus stay behind. also if i enceounter shooty armies lore of life is the way to go. cannons and bolt throwers will stille be able to hurt him but anything else will fail if the bubble goes up. i also don't like the ideea of a 10 man chort bodyguard unit. if it gets targeted it will have to test for panic every turn probably and even wih Ld9 cold blooded i'd rather no take that chance when there are saurus who can fill the role with T4 and 4+ armor save instead of T2 6+ armor save

The skink cohorts are definitely not a must have. But imo the divine plaque is almost a necessity for a lone Slann. 2+ ward save against ranged(spells included) is just too good to pass up for 30 pts.

trouble is plaques are no longer a special type of magic item like in 6th ed, and as you can only have one enchanted item that would mean dropping the bane head.

i agree a 2+ ward is very tasty though, it certainly makes getting one shotted by a cannon very unlikely!


i hadn't thought of 'hiding' him with normal saurus before bibamus, might have to try that myself... i mean there's not really any reason to not do that, certainly against anyone with resonable shooting anyway!

I agree 100%, the bane head is a priceless item, one of the best in the game (for 15 pts no less !). Few items have an equal effect on the game, and there are other ways to improve your survivability and keep the bane head.

Making him etheral on the other hand makes getting 1-shotted by a cannon impossible, and it makes mass shooting completly ineffective, which isnt the case for the 2+ slann. Depending on what armies you face you might want to add the Ehteral discipline.

Maybe I am somewhat jaded as I face skaven quite often, so the mass shooting of jezzails and warp-lightning cannons are magical so making him ethereal doesn't help against shooting.
