8th Ed. 2k monsters list

So the plan will be to have my carny and shaman steg in the centre, providing good leadership bubbles and a nice magical shield. Then on either side of them will be the two foot unis, with flanks covered by the other two stegs.
This lot walks forwards and crushes all in its path.

I hardly ever see cannons as I tend to play Skaven (often no warp lightning cannon),dark elves and chaos warriors.

What do you guys think? Could it work or is it just plain crazy?

It would be a fun list to play. The big problem with monsters these days is that units have steadfast and stepping up, so you really need big units to fight big units in order to win. You will need to use the army to support each other well. You might struggle with hordes just because it will take so long to kill them all, and they can very slowly whittle you down.

Given the opponents you have listed and their typical set up, the list can definitely do well. As Strewart has indicated however, one problem might be in dealing with hordes (particularly with skaven but WoC can field large blocs of marauders and DE often have a massive horde of spears for a sorceress with the sacrificial dagger). To address this, you might consider dropping the steggie and replacing with a couple sallies. The extra points can then be used to beef up the saurus unit. That way, you can weaken a massive horde before charging it with monsters and saurus. Between 2 ancient stegs and carnie, you should have any unit breaking in short order!

It's weird but we never run hordes. I think that is just something that has never entered our local meta game. We find that it is just to big and unweildy and tends to get run around until ready to be dealt with.

If there aren't any hordes in your area, the sallies won't care as they can fry smaller units just as effectively Particularly with skaven, the sallies are fantastic as they cause panic with even one wound and can strip ranks off multiple units if they are close together.

Yeah every list could benefit from a couple of salamanders, they are fantastic, but with this one I'm just not sure where the points would come from. It is a specifically themed monster list so I would be hesitant to remove one of the monsters for salamanders. But getting rid of the steg might be the only way if you want to blow some fire around.

Just used this list against my friends skaven. It was awesome! Chaemlions capped the warp lightning cannon on turn one with a little help from magic alignments.

The carnisaur never really got to do all that much as he kept bloody challenging me and I was losing to bloody combat res as I was doing like 1/2 wounds a turn. might need to look at squeezing the crown of command on him.

The steggies were sweet though, they gored and smashed and stomped the life out of those pesky rats.

I ended up tabling him in the end and only lost my baby steg, my shaman and his ride and the chamo boys.

All in all a good day for the lizards.
