Greetings all.

I am a novice Lizardmen-player with only three battles so far (against Warriors of Chaos).
Now my regular opponent will face the might of the Old Ones with his Chaos Deamons. :bored:

I have a 2500 pts battle against them tomorrow night, and I have *never* faced Deamons before with any army. (I played VC beforehand). The web is filled with claims of awesomeness regarding deamons, so I am a bit sceptical.

How do I proceed with the battle? What do I watch out for? Any particular nasty things I should remember?

I know he will have the following:

1 bloodthirster with the gift of armour 3+ and a 3+ wardsave.

1 huge block of plaguebearers with a hero so the entire unit has regeneration.

2 units of pink horrors.

2 units of deamon dogs of Khorne (name escapes me right now)

1 unit of Flamers of Tzeenth.

2 bloodletters mounted on juggernaugts (one is a hero).

I think that is about it.

I have

1 Slann-magepriest with Fokus of mystery, Focused rumination, Becalming & Stone of soul.
He carries a warbanner, a bane head and the cupped hand of the old ones.

15 Temple Guard with full command.

1 skink priest on a Engine of the gods.

20 Saurus with handweapon and shield

24 saurus with spears

3 x 10 Skink skirmishers

3 razordon hunting packs

2 Salamander packs.

My initial plan is to point out the Bloodthirster with Banehead.
Keep the army together and compact, to benefit from the Slann leadership. Perhaps choose the lore of fire to counter regeneration.

I will use the skinks as screen and to pepper the blood thirster with darts. Every sixth poison hit would be a wound, so it wont kill it, but might help.

I will use salamenders agains the plaguebearers and Razordons against enything that comes close. And of course fire the engine as soon as they are in range.

My main problem is, that I don’t know what to expect. Which parts are dangerous?
The bloodthirster and plaguebearers seem to the biggest concern, but the juggernaugts seem hard too.

I assume my saurus can survive most things front-on, but my opponent is a much better player than me and hence tend to rule the movement fase. :(

Any advice would be appreciated o_O

I probably would target the horrors with your salamanders since they are easier to wound and killing them would help your magic phase. Also you can probably drop becalming on the slann since he doesnt seem to have any tzeentch heroes, and without those your dispell with a slann should be plenty.

I won! :D

A massacre. I killed every single deamon on the field until only the Old Ones servants stod left in turn 6.

:droid:

What happened? How did you massacre them?

Yeah how did you massacre a daemon army? :jawdrop: They are ridiculous! Congratulations! Please post soon as I am anxious to hear about it and a friend of mine just started collecting a daemon army :shifty:

Massacre = enemy rolling ridiculously bad and/or LM rolling ridiculously good.

Or

Deamon army player not knowing how to play to a gross fault. AND rolling badly.

I can see any combination of the above working out nicely for the LM army.

Congrats again! Would love to hear a battle report sometime!

how can you not know how to play a demon army? marching straight forward and charging anything in range are the first few pages of the rulebook

Lol I totally agree. Just point, move and kill

Trust me, I have seen it happen on more than one occasion. It's quite entertaining, if I do say so myself.

well not so much that, but if someone is new to the game, they might not realise things, such as how insane a herald+block is. seriously, daemons without heralds in aren't that OP.

or the correct setups to give thier characters, there are always some fairly useless choices, but it might not be obvious to some.

i had someone use a thirster with no hatred, charge in the front of a block of saurus, wiff his attacks and pop.
