After a bit pf playing about with lists I've come up with this:

LORDS
Slaan Mage Priest
General
Battle Standard Bearer
Focus of Mystery
Becalming Cogitation
Focussed Rumination
Cupped Hands of the Old Ones
Lore of Light

HEROES
Skink Priest
Level 1
Dispell Scroll

CORE
20 x Saurus Warriors
Full Command
Spears

20 x Saurus Warriors
Full Command
Spears

10 x Skink Skirmishers

10 x Skink Skirmishers

SPECIAL
20 x Temple Guard
Full Command

1 x Stegadon

1 x Stegadon

3 x Terradons

5 x Chameleon Skinks

5 x Chameleon Skinks

RARE
1 x Salamander

1 x Salamander

So there you have it. Not sure about the Terradons, but they're a fast expandable unit that can scare warmachines early on. Lore of Light is there to buff my blocks and Stegs. I aim to use the Skink Priest to put Iceshard Blizzard on any unit in combat with on that I get Pha's Protection on to. -2 to hit is a real bonus when you're WS10 :)

Sure Lore of Life lets me bring back dead stuff, but Lore of Light helps slow down how fast they die anyway :)

Comments and criticism very welcome :)

I'm assume you are running open lists? And have to elect your Lore for the whole Tourny?

Even though brining back your models is awesome (Yes i am a VC player at heart) IMO Life allows you to add +4 toughness with vines. And that on a saurus or TG unit is just sickening.

Champions are a massivly over rated upgrade.

Champion 23 pts
1 Wound
3 attacks
Unit strength 1

2 Saurus 22pts
2 Wounds
4 attacks
US 2

Just buy the extra saurus instead. As you get an extra A W and US.

And as you have no chars in either Saurus unit champions are really not needed. and i assume you are runnning 5x4 for saurus and 6x4 for TG with slann?

Apart form that the only major weakness is steggys from warmachines but with CSkinks and terradons you 'should' be ok. We all know how fickle the dice godess is.

Hi Lloyd

Thanks for the reply! :)

Yeah, it's an open list and so the lore I take will be the one I use for the entire tournament. In the end it boiled down to a choice between Life and Light. I'm leaning towards Lore of Light due to it's 12" radial buffs and hexes. The other thing I like about Light, in addition, is it's syngergy with the Iceshard Blizzard spell from the Lore of Heavens. Generally I see my Level 1 Skink Priest taking that spell (or Comet if I roll it) :)

Lore of Life is awesome and saves the 45pts that Cupped Hands costs. But it's spells are limited to a single unit rather than being able to affect multiple units at once. Life also has a nice flaming, magic missle which has the potential to put the hurt on Hyrdas, Abominatoins, Varghulf and the like early on with it's D6 S6 hits from 48" away :)

Champions. Yeah.... I know. The main reason they are there is because they make the points values balance out. And I might be able to put the smackdown on an enemy character in a challenge (I'm looking at Goblins and Skaven....oh and mages of most types) :)

Stegadons. I have to admit, cannons scare the living you-know-what out of me. But with 2 Stegs they have to devide their fire before the Terradons and Chamelon Skinks get to the cannons. I was toying with the idea of some Cold One Cav but I just don't see them hitting as hard. There's a lot to be said for Thunderstomp too.

What do you guys reckon to Cold One Cav? Should I take something out of this list to put them in? Would a Krox/Skrox unit or two be better? Am I missing a hitty Saurus hero?

No. Don't put in CoC. They are a massive point sink as to make them viable IMO is to have a semi large unit to get extra rank. and then a Scar vet with bsb is kinda needed as well. TBH just give it a play and see how you do. If you can get a couple of friendlys in prior to the tourny so you can see what fails.

Also to you know the meta you will be playing at the comp?

Champions are very useful. Accepting challenges from large powerful character can mean the difference between losing half your unit and keeping it. It is far more worth it then just point cost. Think of a Bloodthirster charging your flank. Would you rather lose six guys or one?

True True. Can you tell I play this version called Mathhammer?!

As far as I'm aware it's pretty much "out of the box" 8th Edition. There are some limits such as 12 power dice maximum per phase and special characters as banned. Other than that.... it's pretty much 6 games featuring one of each of the scenarios from 8th.

Oh power scrolls are banned (cos they're just filthy) :D

Very true. One of my Saurus Champions has actually limited a Beastlord on 8 attacks from scoring his maximum casulaties. :)
