I've thought a lot about the choice of lore. Life seems an obvious one, but while it is really good I've been wanting to try light. Light has some very good spells, in particular speed of light which augments the two major weaknesses of saurus infantry (poor initiative and weapon skill). The only problem I've found with life is that it requires throne of vines to be active to really get the most out of the lore, the downside with light of course is a (mostly) useless attribute.
Time warp and Net of amyntok are also great spells with a relatively low casting value, Net can really help as part of an active magic defense (zap the enemy wizards unit and he has to pass a strength test every time he wishes to cast a spell), combined with becalming cog, in the last game I played I don't think I used all of my dispel dice in any turn of the game.
Note that most of my games are fought against elves of various types, even so I still think Light is a great lore for us.
