Well the first thing that pops out is you not having a BSB, which is an automatic no-go as far as my list go. You have no answer to the steam tank either. Your saurus unit is too small and I don't advise ever paying for your skinks to have javs or spears for your saurus.

Opponent got first turn. Used 5 steam points on his tank. Tank blew up! Without doing anything, I was winning!

That soon changed....

He completely wiped everything off of the board...

I pay for the Jav & shield for skirmishers as I then get the 6+ ward save in close combat, plus a 6+ armour save against strength 3 attacks.

As for the spears, It was purely to get the extra rank of attacks. I don't normally use this unless fielding a horde of saurus
