8th Ed. 2000 point Skink List... WTH!?!?

Sooo... over the weekend I took an all skink list to a friendly game at a local shop and ended up playing WoC. Before the match I was like "Great... WoC vs Skinks, Im going to get curbstomped..." WoC player had 20 Mauraders, block of 20 warriors, 10 warriors with lvl2, 9 knights with mounted hero and Lord on Dragon.

I lined up with

Tetto`Eko
Skink Chief, Sword of Anti-Heroes, Dragonhelm, Regen seed, LA/Sh
Skink Chief, BSB, Armor of Destiny, Shield

28 Skinks, FC, 3x Kroxigor
29 Skinks, FC
10 Skims
10 Skirms
10 Skims
4 Terradons
1 Steg
2 Sallies
1 Ancient Steg

Ended up tabling the Chaos player without losing any units... DIDNT LOSE ANY UNITS!

Was this a fluke or are Skink Armies just too fast? Im voting for fluke, but I have to say the skink list was fun to play! Heavens is an awesome lore and I want to try it again sometime!

When you said skink army at the start, I was thinking basically all skirmishers. To me, the list you posted should be crushed by WoC. The dragon alone should be able to wreck your day.
 
I'm deeply curious about the lord on dragon. For one thing, that's 540 points completely naked, so I'm not sure how it's even legal in a 2000 point game.

Perhaps even stranger, though, is what in the world you brought that could go toe-to-toe with -- let alone kill -- such a monster.

This is also what I presumed, only to find skink bsb/large skink cohort unit and other sub optimal units

Although it should be pointed out, the WoC guy was rocking a horrible list!

Where are the skull crushers (2 x 3 is almost mandatory in a WoC list)

No hell cannon?

No 1+ 3++ ward disc rider?

No warshrine?

No chariots either the core ones or the gorebeast one?


So if he is taking the crap WoC units then a lizard army should roll it

However, how did you get past the AS/ward of the dragon rider? Surely he had a 1+ followed by a 4+ ward? And surely the dragon never got into combat cos it would rip face against that list in combat, no higher strength than 6
 
you know after the game I thought to myself that his Lord on Dragon should have been over 500 points, but it didnt matter...

His dragon charged into my Skrox unit... I challenged with Skink champ Lord has higher init and kills Skink with 3 wounds. Since its a challenge, and skink is dead he cant attack and dragon is wasted.

WoC = +1 charge, +3 wounds
Skinks = +3 Ranks, +1 banner, +1 BSB
WoC passes Break Test

On my turn (which I should have noticed during his) he cast Flaming Sword on his dragon... my skink chief has DRAGONHELM! WOOT! I send in a steg to the flank and challenge with the Skink Chief. Skink takes one wound after all his attacks (yay 2+ ward!)

WoC = +1 Wound
Skinks = +1 charge, +1 flank, +3 Ranks, +1 banner, +1 BSB

Lord on Dragon fails break test and runs... :)

Haha that's pretty sweet, pretty good example of why skrox are good, dragon can't thunderstomp you as we'll (if it ever got to that point in the challenge) whenever there is the ubiquitous "why are skrox good" thread they should retell that!

Although Lore of Fire in a WoC list? This guy is evidently terribly inexperienced to run such a poor list and probably the worst lore that WOC can take, and it means his sorcerer is unmarked.
 
Im not arguing that it was a bad list or a bad player or both. Clearly that is the case... What I AM wondering is if anyone else thinks that all skink list is viable? Maybe only at low points? I think the lack of a Lord for them is a huge negative, but to be honest the Slan model has a skink on it right?.... RIGHT? lol :)

The combat with the dragon wasnt the point anyway... the point was that the skinks and salamanders are so quick that they just surround the enemy extremely fast and rain darts and flames all around. And you CANNOT ignore it like most chaff

Which leaves the opponent in a pickle... they either ignore the rain of death and continue to push toward your melee blocks or they waste time and position to deal with the skimishers and the salamanders first, and more than likely exposing at least a flank to the Skrox units

Not to mention the fact that we have access to TWO S6 magic missiles and one bounces!

Maybe we should move this discussion out of Army lists?
 
It's hard to argue with a ton of poisoned attacks raining down on you from all sides. Although your setup against the dragon was pretty sweet. I wouldn't have expected your skink list to do that well, in practice, but skinks are amazing if played well.

Note to self: GET MORE SKINKS! :D

That's a good lesson for all of us really. Without the Crown of Command monsters are plain useless in situations like this. Of course Skrox would have probably ground him to a pulp anyway, but had he been Stubborn he would have been there for a few more turns.

Thanks! But I definately want to do more testing with it before everyone runs out and buys more skinks ;)

The problem with that is, it will most likely be a LONG time before I can make it back out on the battlefield :( My wife and I are expecting a child soon and she is starting to dialate way too early!!!!
 
Even if your experience is a fluke, I need more skinks. :) Congrats on the baby and good luck. Get some sleep while you can. :)
 
I run an all skink list right now. And I know another person who does. I just started mine, I kinda screwed up. Still got a draw off avery good woc player. With 6 skullcrusher. Blocked them and they never moved after turn 2. 10 knights. Killed them with magic skinks and a skrox unit of 30 skinks and 3 krox. He only won because my slann failed 3 wards.
 
Oops we only drew because of slann loss. I would have won.
