7th Ed. 1500pts starter list for this weekend

I finally have enough of my lizards put together for me to field a decent sized army. The list below is using models I can reasonably have ready in time for a game this saturday, so my question is more about load out than unit selection. Also, overall tactical advice would be useful, as this is my first real game with them.

EDIT: After changing the list, I realize I can actually field the minimum core for 2000+. So with that in mind, does anybody have suggestions on how I should kit out my slann. I'm thinking focused rumination definitely (I like my magic), but beyond that I'm not sure.

For Characters...
Skink Priest (General): lvl 2, mounted on an engine w/diadem of power and a dispel scroll

Skink Chief (BSB): Lt. Armour, shield, and javelins, w/Haunchi's blessed totem

For specials...
3 Kroxigors

12 Temple Guard: w/ full command, champ has Sword of the Hornet

For Core...
12 Saurus: Musician, Standard, and spears

12 Saurus: Musician, Standard, and spears

16 Skinks w/ 2 krox's: musician and standard

TOTAL: 1498pts

I expect the skink chief would compliment the krox and skink units pretty well. Also, while the Temple Guard strike me as a bit of a point sink, the rest of my lizards are still in the spawning pools (i.e. not put together), and this forces me to try them in a game under 2000.

split the 21 saurus block in 2x12. if you can't find 3 more saurus to assemble the unit put some TG in the middle of it and nobody will notice

21 is way too big?! Why it's not nearly enou... oh, right... lizards My other army is rats, so I'm used to ranks being a major necessity. So changing:
