hi, im new to warhammer, and new here means that i have never played warhammer before and this is my first army. so i need help and advice on how i should go around building my army. and please have mercy when commenting as i have absolutely no idea what im doing here...

so far i have bought:
1 box of saurus
1 box of skinks
1 box of stegadon

the army im planning to build is:

Skink Priest (General) (from the stegadon box)
ancient steg with EoTG
level 2
plaque of tepok
war drum of xahutec

* scar-vet
light armour
shield
great weapon
BSB
sun standard of chotec

Skink chief (from the stegadon box)
blowpipe
light armour
shield
sacred stegadon helm

15 saurus warriors (15 x 3)
spears
full command

12 skink skirmishers
blowpipes

12 skink skirmishers
blowpipes

* 7 cold one cavalry
full command
sun standard of chotec

* Salamander (3 crews)

total points = 1479

note:
* - units/models that i haven't buy

ok so far, what u've got is good, but it could be better, for the scar vet. give him an enchanted shield, and burning blade of chotec. this way he will have an AS of 2+, and the burning blade of chotec packs a huge punch, and you're going to need that, i'd recommend putting him on a cold one, droping one of ur cold-one cavalry, and putting him in that unit. tbh, its worth droping the Sun standard of chotec, because i find it actually isn't that effective.

it's a pretty well rounded list, and lots of skinks! i run an all skink army, i mean no saurus what so ever. i would suggest though to make you skink chief your general since he has a high leadership due to the stegadon helm. also, you have to drop the sun standard any way since you can only have on of each magic item. but all in all it looks great! :smug:

The skink priest has Ld. 6 so he actually isn't allowed to be general, either scarvet (ld. 8) or chief (ld.7+1) has to be.

If you add an extra skink to the salamander pack then one misfire can't screw over the whole unit.

ok thanx. i didnt know magic items need to be unique, so i'll change the scar-vet's equipment, and put him on a cold one.

and i also didnt know that generals need to have high leadership..

as for the saurus, i dont know why i bought them in the first place. now i feel they are kinda useless.. or maybe im wrong..

anyways, thanx for the input guys..

saurus are amazing! Do not doubt them. 2 attacks each at strength 4 makes them tanks. and with ld 8 and the cold blooded there not going to flee. when you field them put them in a 6x3 formation with only 3 in the back, this way you get the best out of the spears.

lol ok, i thought it was useless to put them in 6x3 formation because i have only 16models. so i improvised and use 15models and put them in 5x3 formation instead. so now i can actually use all my saurus models without getting another box.. thanx for that info.. my god, im really that noob..

don't sweat it animedrac, we all start somewhere!

Theres an index thats been started for new players to learn about the units/ tactics of Lizardmen

http://www.lustria-online.com/threads/the-lustria-online-lizardmen-faq-and-tactica-index.1830/

Its only got a few unit choices there so far but should give you a good starting point.

Saurus with spears are some of the best anvil units in the game, they have a good armour save and toughness, as well as spears (meaning the 2nd rank of Saurus can fight too!) and 2 attacks each! This means a unit with 6 frontage can get 24 attacks (2 attacks per saurus, 6 saurus in front rank, 6 in 2nd rank)
