Hey all. I've just started getting back into Warhammer (not played for a long time). I'm in the process of painting up a small 1k army. It's just a personal thing but I don't like fielding unpainted models (which really makes getting to play a game a slow process, but I'm enjoying the painting atm). Anyway, here's my 1k starter list that I'm painting atm;

Saurus Scar-Vet
Light armour, Additional Hand Weapon, Venom of the Firefly Frog

Skink Priest
Lvl2 Wizard, Cloak of Feathers

19 Saurus Warriors
Full Command, Spears (to be joined by the scar-vet in a 5x4 formation)

10 Skink Skirmishers
Brave, Javelins and Shields

10 Skink Skirmishers
Brave

6 Chameleon Skinks
Stalker

5 Cold One Cavalry (riding converted DE Cold Ones)
Standard Bearer

1 Razordon

Comes in at a coupkle of points under my 1k limit, and I think is quite a nice starting point...

What do you reckon?

i would give the priest not the cloak of feathers.
the cloak is ideal with a slann as backup, but not on its own.
i would give him a scroll and/or the boundspell item to boost your magic power and/or defense.

als the saurus i would deploy in 6x3 formation. that will most of the time give you 4 attacks more. which should be more devastiting then the single extra rank.
if confronted by heavy infatry or knights ( ie chaos warriors etc) then you could always change formation for a more stable CR.

the skinks don't erally need a brave, but thats my personal opinion. i think for the points you take a braves you can actually buy extra skinks. that mean you can get more casualties and more shots ( blowpipe= 2more shots)

if you can scrample a bit more points together maybe it is a possibility to field a pack of 2 razordons?

Agreed with blackhawk on the Cloak, give him a scroll to see the most dangerous spell off when your in dire need of avoiding a comet of cassandorra e.c.

Otherwise, 20 or 18 sauruses is both good choises IMO. you could go for 18, but will need more fiddeling if you whant another razordon...

Cheers for the advice.
I've managed to squeeze in a second razordon by dropping a few of the command additions and taking 17 saurus (+ Scarvet to make 3x16). can't wait to get it all painted now and have a game... ;)

if i were you i would drop the chameleon skinks for an group of skinks skirmishers or a razardon because i tested the chameleon skinks some times but mostly of the time they just get killed in turn 2-3 ( maybe its just me )
