It's definitely possible, although the opposite is probably more likely. Either way, it's hardly a motivating factor. Why invest time following an uninteresting character (imho) in a vain hope that they make him interesting, when I can simply seek out characters and stories that intrigue me right from the onset?
I don't view the Mandalorian as canon either. I watch it for the OT setting, Easter eggs and nostalgia that it provides. It's simple but fun... and it scratches an itch. The end of season two was particularly good at fulfilling this need. Additionally, I do love baby Yoda.
