@Bowser

Just read over the stuff about flat earthers (those memes were great lol) and wanted to post a funfact. You know the story of how Christopher Columbus sailed to prove the earth was round. THATS A MYTH!!!! In fact they even knew the earth was round at that time. The only difference was that they thought the earth was smaller than it actually was. Though in Ancient Greece Eratosthenes actually almost got the earths size perfect (though someone else came along and miscalculated and made a calculation that was less accurate.) Thus flat earthers are even more out of date lol to before Ancient Greece. The myth that Columbus sailed to prove the earth was round was written by Washington Irving (writer of the legend of sleepy hollow) when he made a biography of Columbus and added that in.

Wisecrack has a good youtube video on the subject of crazy consipiracy theories in general but they focus on Flat Earthers above all others.

Short version is that we are losing trust in institutions. Elected officials, beuracracies, the media, the scientific community, the healthcare industry, the insurance indusry, etc etc. Distrust of "so-called experts" is on the rise. While an average person may be a little skeptical of how important it is to follow his doctor's instruction, if you take someone who is already somewhat skeptical of everything by their very nature, they can take their skepticism to extremes.

I also believe that people like to view themselves as one of the elite few. If you are right and everyone else is wrong, you can forge a strong tribal identity with your fellow truthseekers. This applies to many groups that are not conspiracy theorists but out of respect for others I will not call out any of these groups. Instead I'll point out this guy's youtube channel so he can do it for me.

Normally I am a big fan of your work, but for this, I must insist you refund me the 4 minutes and 22 seconds of my life spent on this video...or a bamboo flavored cake.
The target audience is admittedly pretty limited. Its niche appeal is somewhat limited to individuals that are simultaneously huge fans of Rocky 4 AND NES Punch Out! :D
