Yeah. I don't like ranks. Mass armies are blobs as soon as the fighting starts. You boo the might of mass ranks?

I rarely shift away from citadel miniatures. I have a few models from other companies, but they are very few and far between.
Not if they are properly disciplinedYeah. I don't like ranks. Mass armies are blobs as soon as the fighting starts.
No doubt that there are many great models/companies to choose from. For me though, I'm interested in my 3 main armies (Lizardmen, Warriors of Chaos & Tomb Kings) and I really like when my models match up well to one another aesthetically. Some other companies may be able to produce models that are comparable to GW, but aesthetically they don't quite fit my needs.May I ask why? There is a plethora of choice out there. Try other things!

You mean if they want to die. Because outside of Asterix stories not even Romans did that. Not if they are properly disciplined
Do show me evidence please. You mean if they want to die. Because outside of Asterix stories not even Romans did that.
Ok, so roughly rectangles. I never said they stayed rigidAll of those did still "flow" towards the sides if possible, for example to get more people into the fight/circle the enemy, and of course they shifted to fill gaps, either because of own losses or because the enemy line broke up. The guys who didn't have an enemy right in front of them wouldn't just stand around doing nothing.
Of course they stayed together if possible, but viewed from above their formations would have looked more like an amoeba than a rectangle.
Historical texts from Macedonian times describe that and Romans even had drills for who would fill which gap and how.
True, the contact point is always a bit of a swirly messRectangles, "U" shapes, circles, triangles, even shapes that had a few warriors (groups of six or so) protruding forward like the fingers of a hand into empty spaces to create mini-flanking pressure on the enemy.
In some of them it would be hard to even see "ranks" because in a fairly equal fight the front ranks would die quite quickly and not all at the same time, creating a bit of chaos no matter how disciplined the army was. It is just the nature of battle.
Like the wall of death at a metal concert without the good SamaritansYeah definitely not something I would want to be in.
Especially with tactics like pushing from behind (phalanx did that as well).
Haha yeah that describes it pretty well I guess! Except everyone had spears.Like the wall of death at a metal concert without the good Samaritans

Went down to my local GW today, had a little discussion about reveals and I asked questions about most things. I did ask about Seraphon Warscrolls, it was something to do with releases and how Seraphon/Flesh Eater Courts were early released they were not considered at the time, that had me shrugging a bit.
Chances are Seraphon may not be able to ally with Deepkin due to the whole Elves, but I did get told if I do want to take them. Take an Order Alliance so I can apparently take whatever I like, I need to go check myself on that, cause I know I word things funny sometimes.
The manager has a theory that the blind elves have relation to Tyrion/Teclis, how in the fluff Tyrion is blind but see's through the eyes of Teclis, so there could be something related there but so far it's just a theory. I joked about it going all Elder Scrolls.
Somehow the manager knew I was planning for Armies on Parade cause he asked my what I was doing for it. Also brought some Melusai and Legions of Nagash book.
