So we have too many prop doors, what do we do with them?

There's a lot of posts along the lines of "That's a good refuge in a zombie apocalypse until you run out of supplies."

I think Sean of the Dead is on the money. The military, ANY military can solve a zombie problem eventually. You only need to hold out of a couple days, a few weeks at most.

It depends on how intelligent and fast they are. One billion fast smart Undead will overrun most anything. Slow and brainless we have a chance. World War Z, the book not the rubbish movie, made a few solid points about most of our weapons deal with living beings who know fear and pain. Flame throwers are a lot less effective against something that doesn't breath or suffer from the burn damage.

I agree.

Intelligence and technology would win the day. The early days are dangerous because nobody knows what is going on, but once they figure it out, the zombies will fall.

I think the only problematic aspect of the whole thing is that you can never be sure that you've taken care of all of them. It only takes one survivor to potentially start the cycle again. People would have to adjust how they live.

I enjoyed that movie.

Speed is problematic, but zombies aren't generally know to be very intelligent. Isn't stupidity one of their defining features?

A couple tanks would give them all sorts of problems. I'm not even talking about the turret, simply run them down. Best of all, it's in the zombies' nature to swarm you, which allows the tank to take out large swats of them quickly. Plus we've now got drones for surveillance and all sorts of cool military toys. And depending on when the zombie invasion hits, we might have AI robots by then, which are hard counters to zombies.

The only scenarios where zombies could be a threat to modern military, are the ones where the infected gains supernatural powers (extra speed and phisical abilities as in WWZ - the movie, or mutations as in the games Dead Space or Left 4 Dead)

Are the zombies in the World War Z movie faster than a human? Or are they merely the same speed but don't tire? It didn't look as though they had supernatural speed or even speed we would find in the wild, such as cheetahs.

I enjoyed that movie.
The movie was much like JurassicPark was for me. They are enjoyable until or if you've read the book. This is my opinion and I don't force that on anyone, but since I had read the book I disliked the movie. This is not to be mistaken with my loathing of the Hobbit movie as my love of the books made me grouchy with the LotRs movies that I liked even with the numerous errors that Jackson explained and I'll stop going down this road.

Fair enough. I have not read the book and could only strictly judge the movie on its own. The book may very much be better.

I recall them moving as a crazy fast swarm.
Certainly their agility was not human-like, if i think to the massive and fast pile of bodies that stormed the walls of jerusalem

They definitely constitute a crazy fast swarm, but I still think they fall within human limits (in terms of speed, but their endurance is far better). In the bicycling scene through the military airport, they are not closing the distance as quick as a cheetah would.

I had a chat with Google Gemini, and we came up with the following analysis. The zombies run without any inhibition, meaning unlike us, their bodies don't limit their force output to prevent injury. However, as Gemini points out:

So while they are fast, they don't have the joint mechanics and musculatrue of a Greyhound or Cheetah.

As the topic was interesting, I put forth a few more ideas, to which Gemini agreed (of course I don't know just how "agreeable" Gemini is), so it is still up for debate.

I put forth the idea that a prime Usain Bolt could not be caught over the distance of 100m by a WWZ zombie. He represents the peak of human sprinting capability. His muscles, muscle fiber percentage and body in general is far more optimized than a regular human turned zombie.

Of course, knowing me, the next matchup had to be human Bolt versus zombie Bolt. I maintain that over the course of 100m, human Bolt would be the victor. The zombie Bolt might be able to generate more force (due to a lack of physiological inhibition), but it lacks the technical sprinting knowledge and technique that Bolt has. Bolt isn't just fast because his body can produce more explosive force than the rest of us, but because that force is more efficiently used (especially in the highly technical acceleration phase). A significant percentage of the zombies force output would be wasted.

However, once we start to extend the distance beyond 200m, Bolt is in trouble.

That said, this is a tangent, as none of us have Bolt's technical or physiological makeup. I just thought it was a fun thought exercise.

Fun fact, zombies would not have the mental block preventing full power, the reason we never can use it is how self destructive it is. Basically if we were to use our actual full strength our muscles would destroy themselves and break some bones, so really a zombie would be super dangerous briefly and then make themselves harmless after destroying everything they need to move
