I have read through the new rules and I am really baffled by how you place your units on the board .can you place them in one big line or a triangle/square. Can some please shed some light on the subject for me!!
I think there are some rules about how you have to be so close to your other models... http://www.lustria-online.com/threads/lizardmen-warscroll-is-out.16447/\\ Edit: never mind... that must have been a suggested rule I read somewhere ? apparently there is no rule for formation, except each model cant move more than it's maximum move characteristic..?
@Spark Warscrolls & Units, p.1 "Models fight in units. A unit can have one or more models, but cannot include models that use different warscrolls. A unit must be set up and finish any sort of move as a single group of models, with all models within 1" of at least one other model from their unit. If anything causes a unit to become split up during a battle, it must reform the next time that it moves."
The whole "measure from the model" seems silly to me. I think for simplicity sake I'll keep measuring from the base. Honestly I think that's what they intended anyway, but worded it badly.
Tools of War, p.1 "Distances in Warhammer: Age of Sigmar are measured in inches ("), between the closest points of the models or units you’re measuring to and from. You can measure distances whenever you wish. A model’s base isn’t considered part of the model – it’s just there to help the model stand up – so don’t include it when measuring distances." I'm not trying to rules lawyer and I'm not against house rules at all, but the wording is there. It would certainly be easier to measure from the bases, yeah, as long as the bases are appropriately sized.
Apart from the spacing, whatever that is, the overall shape of the unit can be a triangle, wedge, oval, whatevs... ...Bret kniggets could do their old 5th ed. lance triangle. Their scroll vaguely describes a rule for attacking in a lance or some such. Except I can't find what I thought I read. So, never mind. Pegasus Knights: "Swooping Charge: A unit of Pegasus Knights can be chosen to pile in and attack twice, instead of only once, during a turn in which they charged." I guess this means wedge them together one time? but deliver double attacks?
I play 40k as well as AoS and they both seem increasingly similar in mechanics. In 40k, you can place your units however you like as long as they stay within unit coherency. Since AoS has moved over to round bases, I have applied the same logic and have had no issues with unit placement. hope this helps
