I'm a newcomer. The only "fluff' source I own is Battletome: Seraphon and even that's not all fluff. I'm afraid it might be too late to learn the lore of the Lizardmen, but I'm intensely interested in the lore of the Seraphon. I didn't come to the game, the models, or the stories, however, until at least a year or two after the Age of Sigmar game was launched. If I want to know all there is to know about the current continuity, what do I need to purchase and read?
I am always of the opinion that Lustria-Online has better stories than most GW writers. A lot of of our fluff writers dip our toes in Age of Sigmar but @Bowser has dived deep into Seraphon lore. All but one of his fluff pieces are set in the Age of Sigmar. I believe he has almost written more Seraphon stories than all other L-O writers combined. Seraphon stories crop up in our short story contests. If you asked me I'd say about a third of them are Age of Sigmar related since the edition debuted but after going through, its way less than a third. October-November 2017 Story Four April-May 2017 Story Two and Six January-February 2017 Story Three, Five (parody), Eight, Eleven, Thirteen, Sixteen October-November 2016 Story One, Story Nine July-August 2016 Story Nine April-May 2016 Story Five, Story Eight, Story Ten January-February 2016 Story Five, Story Six, Story Eight October-November 2015 Story Four, Story Nine July-August 2015 Story Four
About "official" Seraphon lore: It is rare. They are briefly mentioned in a few places and there were a few questions answered about them on Facebook and/Or in the White Dwarf magazine. But most is actually in the Battletome.
The very first Age of Sigmar publication I purchased, the "Getting Started" guide, says only "The seraphon are mighty and enigmatic." They sure have stayed firm on that "enigmatic" bit haven't they? Cheers, Christopher
Pretty much, yes. Which is not bad actually since it leaves a lot of space (see what I did there?) open for our own stuff.
Seraphon iconography is quite obviously influenced by various historical Earth Mesoamerican civilizations. I don't know that much art history--is it mainly Maya and Aztec? I'll work my way through the Seraphon stories and pictures produced by the community here, so I'll eventually find this answer for myself, but I am also curious as to whether dance has played a role in any of the depictions of Seraphon society, religion, or warfare, "officially" or not.
I feel like the art style is mostly Aztec, but the temple seem Mayan. I don't recall hearing anything about Lizardmen dancing, Seems like something Skinks might do though... for religious reasons.
Skaven Pestilens by Josh Reynolds is a good intro for the Seraphon in Age of Sigmar. I believe it was their debut in the fluff, I am certain they pop up in others as well, but I haven't read too much of the official lore. I think with the Seraphon not having much info about them makes them perfect, and you can kind of create your own sytems and societies, it can be the same as the old Lizardmen, in a new setting. Or it can be anything you like really. And a dying race, and sentient beings who are but a memory and starlight can definitely make for interesting story hooks. With the lore being an almost blank slate, it gives you more control to direct the action.
A little late to the party, but I agree Lizardmen...Seraphon iconography has lots of influences from Aztec/Mayan in art, achitecture, weapons, etc., I always love referring back to this old picture from the White Dwarf This picture in particular shows murals drawn straight out of a Mayan stone carving at the city of Yaxchillan, and an Aztec feathered-snake that I believe is drawn from the Codex Borgia (though I can't reference the exact part of it, might be from somewhere else). Spoiler The newer Seraphon stuff seems to have subdued most of the Maya/Aztec/Inca influences in my opinion, which is sad , though I have tried to make a list of star-lizard related lore in the timeline thread.
Definitely check out this thread: http://www.lustria-online.com/threa...ttle-info-about-how-they-actually-live.19398/ Based on the new maps provided by the malign portents site and previous info about them, the Seraphon are revived from the memories of the Slann just like the other races have been revived by their gods, and now the Seraphon live on floating islands high in the realm of Azyr, always ready to be summoned to battle by their masters at any moment. We also know from the city generator published on the community site that Seraphon live among the other races in various cities, too.
