okay so i have a slann 2 skink priests 30 skinks 30 saurus and 20 temple guard so i have never played WF before and would love some help! i plan to go into a game store after completing a list that is ruffly 1,000-1,500 points. any help would be great! thank you!!!
Well as a beginning player to WF, I consider it best playing with infantry blocks so you can get the hang of it and don't have to be bothered by 2 many rules and movements. So I find your army as it is now a very good one. Just to give some perspective. A nice lizardmen beginning army for me would be: What you have + 2 salamanders, a stegadon, and a unit of cold one riders. The cold one riders are mainly there 2 give you the option of having scar vets or old bloods on cold ones. For list building: a game of under 2000pts is not really fitted for bringing a slann. So that is a big chunck of points out of your list.
thanks for the reply! i dont have the core rule book atm but my plan is to go into a game store and ask some one to show me the ropes! also out of those three what would be best to get first? or should i get the battle box? also instead of a slann what would be a good sub?
It depends on what you like . Do you like to have a big monster then go ahead with the stegadon. If you like burning people go for the salamanders, and if you want an extra unit block go for the cold one riders. The book is ofc what you will need most xD. Out of what you have right now: 1000pts list Scar vet: BSB, shield and magic armour of 50pts. Skink priest lvl 2 (this one replaced your slann in low point games). Dispel scroll. 24 saurus warrior with Standard Bearer and musician. 10 skink skirmisher 10 skink skirmisher 18 Temple Guard full cmd (champion, standard bearer, musician). This is 996pts.
thanks for the saurus would i use spears or hand wep? are blow pipes best for skinks? and for my SP what lore would be best?
I'm personally a spears kinda guy, but I think most LM players go for the hand weapons and shields. If you play with the rules for 8th edition javelins and shields is the better choice in most games for your skink skirmishers. But since you are new, use 1 of each and see for yourself. With big blocks of infantry the lore of beasts is going to be better in most cases.
I agree with everything Skink Chief said, except for spears. I would not recommend taking spears until you are fielding 25+ strong blocks of Saurus warriors backed by Slann magic though to be fair the difference between spears and hand weapons is not major. Unless you are fielding really small groups, it's not worth perspiring on taking spears or hand weapons if you like the look of one better Things that favor spears. -Engine of the Gods Steggies or Troglodons -Large model count blocks (25+) -Lots of access to magic buffs -Non-elite enemies Things that favor hand weapons and shields -Low access to magic buffs -Small model count blocks (<20) -Elite enemies
