I was just reviewing the warscroll for Nagash, and one of his abilities—Deathly Invocation—provides healing to units described as SUMMONABLE (all caps). Usually when I see something printed like that on a warscroll, I assume it to be a keyword. However, when I went and looked at the Warscrolls for Skeleton Warriors and Zombies (and for that matter, at the Warscrolls for any of the many Seraphon units that can be summoned), I didn’t find that keyword. Are there Death units out there somewhere with that keyword? Or is it referring more generally to any unit that a wizard can conjure? I use the word “conjure” because the spells listed as bringing on new Skeleton Warriors and Zombies in the Magic sections of their Warscrolls actually use the word “raise” instead of “summon.”
Eh, never mind. I just downloaded the Warscroll for Grave Guard and see that it IS a keyword. I don’t see any rules on the warscroll for how summoning actually works for such units (there’s no Magic entry with a spell listed as on the Seraphon units), but I’m now sure that the ability doesn’t work on Skeleton Warriors and Zombies, anyway.
Skeleton warriors, Zombies do have the key word so the ability does apply to them, also he knows all the spells of any other undead wizard so if your opponent has skeleton warriors/zombies and a necromancer kill the necromancer fast or you will face a massive amount of attacks E.g a unit of 40 skeleton warriors with spears buffed can put out 246 attacks per turn if all are in range and none die.........
Good tips, thank you! Y'know, I'm looking at the Warscrolls in the app and I see these keywords: Zombies: Death, Zombie, Deadwalkers Skeleton Warriors: Death, Skeleton, Deathrattle, Skeleton Warriors No mention of Summonable on either.
I've looked into this a little more, and I'm now quite confused. The Warscroll for Zombies online here has several differences from the Warscroll in the Age of Sigmar app (as far as I know, my app is up to date). Among them: (1) their attack, Zombie Bite, Hits and Wounds on 5+/5+ on the online Warscroll, but on 6+/6+ on the app Warscroll; (2) the wording on the Vigor Mortis ability is slightly different, (3) The ability Newly Dead does not appear on the online version, and (4) most importantly to this discussion, the keyword Summonable appears on the online version but not the app version. Has there been some update? If so, which one is out of date? Does this have to do with the new(ish) Nagash book, do you think?
The app is probably more up to date than the online warscrolls from the website I think! Not sure tho as I don't know their warscroll!
My app was last updated 23rd April. I guess I'm going to write customer service and ask them about this. ETA I reviewed the FAQs and Errata for Death and didn't find anything there. But a January article about the new Nagash book on the Warhammer Community site does mention changes to the summoning rules. ETAETA Customer Service autoresponded that they don't answer rules questions and provided an email address for the Rules Team. The Rules Team autoresponded that they can't answer individual questions but would consider looking into any question for the next scheduled FAQ. I don't really think of this as a rules question, really.
The legion of Nagash book is the latest ruleset for Death models and the following have the SUMMONABLE keyword Bat swarms Fell bats Zombies Black knights Grave guard Skeleton warriors Hexwraiths Spirit hosts Dire wolves
I guess the app's Warscrolls are out of date then. Bummer. ETA Or I suppose it's possible I have to buy the Nagash book through the app to have access to its Warscrolls?
Hah! I only have about a quarter of my Seraphon painted and am just now beginning to understand how to drive them around! If I ever ever bought another Age of Sigmar army it would probably be either the new Idoneth Deepkin or the Kharadron Overlords. But that's waaaaay down the road. Like, after I get my metal Sisters of Battle and my Genestealer Cults painted up down the road. Years down the road.
@Christopher Have you tried deleting and re-downloading the warscroll on your app? I had to do that for the majority of the Nurgle warscrolls, as when they update the App they don't change the warscrolls you have downloaded before, only those available to download! (Does that make sense to you? haha)
Ding ding ding! We have a winner! That did it, bringing the Warscrolls into compliance with those I found online. That's great info, thanks so much, Xasto!
My pleasure! That had me scratching my head for a while too back when they released Maggotkin of Nurgle! Glad it could help!
Yeah, a big number of abilities in Nagash battletome revolve around summonable units. Gravesites, for a starter...
